Tuxedo Junction vs Men's Warehouse??

Laura, on January 1, 2012 at 6:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

So FH and I are going to pick out tuxes for him and the groomsmen this week. Does anyone have any suggestions? Did you use either? Were you happy/unhappy with the results?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

We went through Mens Warehouse (No TJ in this area). It was an okay experience. They are big on up-selling so make sure to ask questions. FH and I did research after we went there and when we came back changed a few things when we put the deposit down. They really only have 2 major types of tuxes- The Calvin Klein ones that are $180 or the other ones that are $140. If you wants stripes you have to go with CK.

Since you have options I would check both out!

Ohhh- and if you got your dress at DB- you should get $40 off the tuxes which really helped. And if you rent more than (I think 5 tuxes) FH get is free OR gets a free $350 suit. FH wears a suit almost everyday so we went with the free suit option.

I didn't not get my dress from DB but the option of a free rental to suit is really nice! Thanks again Smiley smile

We went to one MW and it was awful. Then we went to another one and it was great. The selection and prices were the same BUT the sales person in the second one was, in fact, helpful and they had stuff for DH to try on. That was critical for us.

I've heard that some Men's Warehouses don't have anything to try on, is that true?

@Jennifer, yes, the first location we went to wanted us just to pick the tux out of the book. There's no way we would have done that. The shirts that came with some of the tuxes were 100% cheapest polyester that was **not** written anywhere.

Lucky for us, both places are in the same mall that is within 15 minutes of both of our houses. For anyone that still need to get tuxes, I'll let you know our experience with the two stores go.

*Also* I just got in the mail that if you reserve your wedding with TJ by Jan 31, the groom gets his free and 50% off all other tux rentals (as long as you have 5)

We got our tuxes through MW and we were happy with the experience. It is true (at least at our location) that they didn't have tuxes to try on. It was kind of like shopping for BM dresses anywhere but DB, they had at least 1 jacket of every style in the store, but it may or may not fit the person wanting to try it on. However, before ordering, each of the guys got to try on a jacket in his size (just in a different style) to make sure the lengths were right, etc.

We looked into Jims Formal Wear during our search also. Seems like every bridal salon in our area goes through them. The bridal shops that carried Jims didn't have a stock of things to try on either. They had a few jackets in the store that you could try if they happened to fit you, but they order everything from the Jims warehouse and don't keep a stock of it.

I have no experience with Tuxedo Junction, so I can't offer any insight there.

I strongly recommend that you find a place where they will have options for him to try on. Although it's not as difficult as with wedding gowns, I was still surprised with how some things I thought were going to look good didn't and vice versa.

My brother-in-law and his wife used Tuxedo Junction for their wedding, and H was a groomsmen. We had a pleasant experience. There were very limited try-on options, and none in H's size (he's a pretty large guy, though). All of the suits are ordered before the event and shipped from a warehouse somewhere, so there isn't really much on-site. However, the style selection was impressive even if not everything was available to try on. The tux itself was nice, we had no problems with the quality or fit whatsoever. And besides that, H said it was by far the best fitting and most flattering tux he'd ever worn, and he had rented from MW in the past for another wedding years ago (though I never saw the suit from MW myself). I would use them for our vow renewal if the date was closer but since we have a while to go, we will have an oppurtunity to try Joseph A. Bank as well, and then I will choose between the two for the renewal. We are not even considering Men's Warehouse at this point.

My fiancé was in a wedding about a year ago and they got taxes from TJ and it was a mess. No one was happy with the quality of the tuxes, the staff was rude, and half the guys were missing shoes and TJ kept telling them they never ordered them.
