Tux or suit for my escort down the aisle?

weliz, on September 10, 2009 at 7:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I was going to walk down the aisle alone, but now I think I will ask either my best male friend or my brother-in-law to escort me. My FH and his BM are both wearing tuxedos. Does this mean the person escorting me down the aisle should also wear a tuxedo? Or can he wear a nice suit?

I thought a nice suit would be fine by my mom is insisting that my dad wear a tux because it will look nicer.

I think we're going with tuxes for everyone, but different colored vests/ties/shirts to denote position.

I gave my dad the option of renting a tux or wearing a suit. He said he was thinking of buying a new suit anyway so he bought a nice black suit with a crisp white shirt for the wedding. He'll be wearing a black and silver tie with it also. Since he's technically not part of the wedding party I don't feel it's necessary for him to wear a tux.

On the other hand if your escort does not have a nice suit already it might be cheaper for him to just rent the tux for $70 than it is to buy a new suit.

Thanks for the different perspectives! I had thought a tux would be more of a PITA, but as he is flying in to town it might actually be easier as he can just show up and pick it up here and not have to lug a suit on an airplane. I'll ask him which he would prefer and go from there.

I know you have already decided, but in case others read: If you follow tradition, the escort is part of the wedding party and should wear what the groomsment and groom are wearing. However, I'm guessing not everything about your wedding is traditional and I prefer your idea of asking him what he wants to do.

Thanks, Thistle! You're right, we're only partially traditional, we're doing the church and dress and tux, but we each only have one attendant, we're not decorating the church or anything, and we're just going to a restaurant afterwards instead of having a traditional reception. I guess our style would be called simplified-traditional. ;-)

Our "men" including my Dad are wearing tux pants, shirts, vest. Not the full tux. we are having a Semi formal wedding outside.

Thanks! I gave him the info for the tux place just in case he wants to go that route, but I'm leaving the choice up to him.

He should be wearing a Suit. Hes not really part of the wedding party, hes just walking you down. And you want to make hime comfortable through out the whole night. so have him in a nice suit with your colors in it. either with the tie or the shirt color.
