Tummy control! Spanx? Corset? Help!

Christina, on February 13, 2018 at 12:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9
Hi brides! Ok I’m on the bride diet & droppin some pounds...but I’m super fixated on my tummy! My dress is a mermaid gown & hugs at my tummy & I totally hate when I see a woman wearing a tight dress..you can see her belly button or shape of her “pooch”... so I’m trying to do what I can to avoid that. Now if my bride diet/excercise doesn’t completely vanish my tummy pooch...I need advice on the best corset, or Spanx, or right under garment that you can recommend to help this bride out!! Thank you!

Go to a department store. People are trained in fitting these.

Uhh I'm kinda in the same boat lol. My dress hugs my curves, which I love, but the last time I tried it on, it didn't compliment or flatter my tummy, love handles, and thigh area. Alterations will help, and I am eating better and excercising. I really wanna watch this thread closely for more advice...I saw shapewear at JC Penny that looked quality.

I will probably have the same issue!

My dress was delivered to the bridal store in December and I tried it on 1x since then, with shapewear. I actually liked how the dress looked better without it b/c I felt like you could see the line of the undergarment above my belly button.

I will either go without or try to find one that hits closer to my bra, however, I imagine that won't be very comfortable.

Side note: I wear shapewear almost always when I'm wearing work dresses, etc. I've never purchased the Spanx brand ($$$&dollarSmiley winking but have always had much luck with Maidenform ... big selection and fair prices at Macys.

I didn't wear a mermaid gown but i have a permanent food baby even though i'm in pretty decent shape. i went to a local lingerie store and asked for advice--ended up with a bodysuit/bike short kind of shapewear that ended at my dress's waistline. there are lots of good ones on the market--i liked the experience of going to a smaller store where everyone had expertise in fitting and products. i've also had success with Spanx over the years. good luck!!

I would go to the store that sells under garment before purchasing it online because you to try it on and you can ask the staff to help you select something that would best work for your body type and the dress you’ll be wearing

I have a spanx type of thing (its a different brand) that I found on Macy's and love! I wear it all the time when I wear formal dresses. Macys had a great amount of options and you can try them on to see how it looks/feels. the one I have its like a skirt that comes up to under breast area. It holds well and keeps my curves more defined. I am not sure I will be wearing for my wedding as my dress is already making me hot and we're getting married outdoors but I will definitely bring with me the day of, just in case.

I've been experimenting in this department for a few weeks now, trying to find the best garment under my fit and flare dress. I've tried on a few brands and I like the biker type as described above. My number one tip in whatever garment you find, squat up and down, sit down and move your body like you are dancing before buying! The most annoying thing in the world is feeling that Lycra material rolling up on you!!! I bought a bali brand from Amazon. It had a ton of great reviewed, offered free returns if I hated it and the legs do not roll up when I move around. Good luck!
