Trying to make it fun...

mpls, on March 30, 2010 at 4:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Anyone have any ideas on cool things to have at the reception? At first I was thinking Pull tabs - but the gambling commission shot me down. Next I was thinking of having some bar games (punching bag game, Golden Tee, etc) - but it seems to be a pain to rent and not exactly what I’m looking for. Anyone have any ideas to spice up…and break away from the traditional wedding reception. I've seen the photo booth and while on the right track - it's not for me. Thanks!

We're doing a "roast" instead of a toast. We're going to do some type of game to raffle off the centerpieces-one less thing to clean up-sweeet! The company FH works for always does that at their holiday parties and it's a hit.

Board games, kareokee (sp?), ummm... what else, S'MORES! If I think of anything else I will let you know! Jeopardy with the answers being all about you and your FH! Know anyone who does a great Alec Tribec impression?! I also wanted to do the "newly wed game" and go against my parents and his parents..lol

S'MORES! YUM! I saw online one time a couple who packaged cute little s'mores boxes for all the guests!

Me and my girls are doing a bellydance number to entertain our guests. Which then lead into everyone dancing. We will also be having a sword fighting arena.

I love trivia. We used to play with friends all the time and wanted so bad to have the quizmasters who do trivia come do our rehearsal dinner. If your wedding isn't too gigantic, you could do it at the wedding. And the trivia could be about you guys.

Candy bar or do it yourself sundae bar or smores or root beer float bar?

We are getting a character artist. I think everyone will enjoy having them done and then we are also setting up a scanner and laptop so we can scan everyone’s finished picture and have it as a keep sake.

Ask your DJ for some ideas. It's kinda in their job description to entertain your guests! Besides, they have been to lots of weddings and probably know what works and what doesn't.

There's quite a few games you can do at a wedding. From the standard "scavenger hunt" to the newlywed game, there's plenty to choose from. However, if your reception is not at least 5 hours long, I would caution you against doing games.

Opinion *** As a DJ, I don't like to do games at a wedding as I believe it pulls the attention away from you and your husband.

You can make trivia cards and put them out on tables. That way, people who want to use them can and people who hate games don't have to.

I officiate a lot of beach weddings here in Florida. Lately, some couples have had a luau reception with hula and fire dancers as the entertainment -- lots of fun!
