Question. My new mother in law has switched from coming to our wedding to not again again and again. I’m at the point I don’t want her there because I know she will ruin our day. Any advice?

    1. Let him decide, but until final count is due, don’t even pay attention to her back and forth.
    2. Blackmail/extortion is a crime. If she truly is threatening to expose some act of his that will result in him losing his home (this sounds far fetched), consult with a lawyer.
    3. Since it would be unusual for action taken by a child to impact property ownership, is it possible he is catastrophizing the issue? A few sessions with someone like a therapist to learn a few tricks to redirect his thoughts when he starts to feel he will losd his home may help.

I’m not gonna say what happened to him but he has asked his mom not to bring it up because it has to deal with a cousin. She continues to bring it up and tells him it’s his fault for what happened to him. It breaks my heart how she treats him when he just wants a parent his mom to love him. But she does this. I am going to let him make the final decision.

She has no ties to our house. We paid for it ourselves.

It’s ok to cut contact with someone who hurts you. If she has no connections to the house and her blackmail consists of talking about past trauma he experienced, connecting it to your house sounds bonkers. But none of that matters if he truly thinks she can take the house - he should do something to redirect his thoughts when he starts to worry about it.
