Traveling internationally after wedding - name change?

Jen, on June 9, 2019 at 12:45 PM Posted in Married Life 0 6
We are going to Paris for our honeymoon 3-4 days after we get married....how does that work if I plan on changing my name (hyphenating)? Anyone else experience this? Thanks!

Book your travel arrangements with your maiden name and don't begin the name change process until you return.

Awesome thanks - I was worried I would have to change my name immediately after getting the marriage license!!

As Caytlyn said, book everything under your maiden name. You can't change your name with SS office until you get your marriage certificate, which usually takes a bit of time anyway. The marriage license is signed the day of the wedding, but you need the marriage certificate to actually start the name-change process.

Signing the marriage license doesn’t automatically change your name and you will have to wait to get the certified copy until you can go to the social security office. So book everything in your maiden name.

Wait to change your name until after you get back.

I hadn't even considered this!! It feels so weird to honeymoon under your unmarried name... but makes enough sense!
