Travel fee for vendors?

Kimberly, on November 10, 2010 at 5:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I live in a town with not a lot of....anything. As far as vendors go, in general, do most of them charge a "travel fee" if they need to travel a certain distance to deliver their product?

Typically the florist will charge a delivery and set-up fee. For other vendors, if you are within a certain mile radious of their office, they do not have a travel fee.

It really depends on the vendor. I have a travel fee if I am traveling outside of the city. I usually charge the current government rate. Others charge for time traveled. Be sure to ask each vendor so that you can work it into your budget.

Ya, they should provide you with a quote.

It really depends on the actual vendor, their location and their profession. For example, florists will most like charge a delivery fee while most dj's will not charge a setup fee. Photographers almost never charge a travel fee while of course your cake makers probably will.

Like everyone said, it all depends on the vendor.

Photographers typically will charge a traveling fee if it is outside their regular servicing area (depending on what that area is of course).

Our florist is charging a travel fee, it is a good thing to ask the vendors so you can consider the quotes

Depends. Distance but also difficulty getting into the venue. We charge an access fee at one venue but the one across the street we don't because it's a lot easier to get into.

Most vendors I talked to (when we were contemplating a wedding in the country) would have charged a travel fee. That was another 3 hours tacked onto their day with driving, and they should be compensated for that time and gas expenses.

I'd budget for it, and budget high. If you find vendors that don't, or it ends up being lower than estimates- that frees up money in your budget instead of having to find more in a rush!

Some of those "all day" vendors may not. I have to when going more than an hour one way. If I didn't, I could end up missing out on a 2nd wedding that day because of the distance, and not getting anything for it, in addition to the added time along with wear and gas on my vehicle.
