Transportation from venue to hotel

Alicia, on January 19, 2022 at 8:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 8
Hello,
I am really struggling on this one aspect of planning.
We want to have a bus for our guests to get to and from the wedding reception.I am not so worried about people getting there as we can have the bus run multiple trips and people can show up to the reception at their leisure I am worried about at the end of the wedding if everyone stays till the very end.
We are having our wedding out of town so almost everyone will be at the hotel.
I don’t want to over spend on something simple, but I do not want guests to stay until the very end and then not have room on a bus and have to wait for a second trip .
Does anyone have experience with this?

Same for me. I’m planning on having three trips at the end of the night. I guess theoretically everyone could stay till the very end, but I feel like usually there’s a group that’s ready to head out early.

    Thanks for your response!
How many seats does the vehicle have that will be going back and forth?
I am conflicted on either a 33 passenger or something bigger like 50

I think alot of people don't stay until the very end. I would start making trips back to the hotel about an hour after dancing starts. You could have the times posted on a sign or on the program.
Let's say the reception starts at 7, and you're done with cake cutting, dances, speeches at 8, and then the DJ starts. Older people or those with kids are usually done and ready to go by then. You could have 2 trips - an early bus and a late bus. One at 9 and then one at 11 or whenever it's supposed to end.

Hi Alicia! Figuring out guest transportation can be tricky (and pricey!!) but it's a huge bonus for your guests!!

Most guests actually don't stay until the very very end of the night, so your bus can also run multiple trips on the way back. I've never minded waiting an extra 10-20 minutes for the bus to come back!

I'd start reaching out to local companies and ask for their recommendations on bus size, trips, etc.: Search Local Wedding Transportation

Have you asked your hotel or the venue if they have any kind of shuttle service? Our venue was partnered with a hotel less than five minutes down the street, and as part of the package, they included a shuttle that had two pickups and dropoffs before the wedding and two after. It's worth looking into if you haven't already.

Hey Amanda! What company are you using to rent a school bus? I am hoping to do the same as it seems to be much more afforable!

I struggled with this early on since I was worried they’d drink too much. And rideshares/taxis don’t exist where I live. The only transportation is a trolley. I finally decided that my guests are all grown adults and should be responsible for their own safety and to not drink and drive. It would have cost me an extra $1000. I did however stress multiple times and in different areas on our website and a travel insert saying we don’t have Ubers. Be responsible. Suggested to get accommodations close to the venue and have a designated driver, etc.
