Our ceremony and reception are at the same venue. We have a block of rooms reserved at two hotels. The hotel we are staying at is 2 miles from the venue, the other is 5 miles away. Guests that would stay at the hotel that FW and myself are staying at are: parents, wedding party and grandparents. At this point we don't know who else would be staying in hotels (wedding is in Oct)...We are thinking most people will just drive home after the reception and not stay in the hotels. And it's not like the people that are staying at our hotel are going to be so intoxicated, even if, there will be plenty of sober people going to the same hotel that help with transportation.

Should we provide a shuttle to the wedding and back to the hotel or not? It's anywhere from $600-800 for this, seems unnecessary considering how close the venue is.

I am looking at using Uber Events. Then you only play for the rides people use so you don't waste any money if no one wants to shuttle and people could use the Uber to get home as well instead of just to the hotel.

Not required. It can be a nice touch, but your guests should be used to getting themselves around. To be nice, have some info about local taxis or Uber/Lyft on your wedding website and available at your reception.

My hotel block was only 15 minutes away from the venue but I booked a shuttle and even if only the bridal party used it I was happy with that. More people used it than we expected and every trip was packed! 24 per person party bus and 3 trips back and forth. Some people who weren't even staying at the hotel took the shuttle just because they thought there wouldn't be enough parking at the venue!

I went to a wedding about two years ago in Connecticut. The venue wasn't very far from our hotel , but a shuttle bus was provided. I thought it was nice since the guest were drinking and many of us were from out of state and not familiar with the area.
