Transition Lenses

Monana, on May 17, 2014 at 6:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

My FH has transition lenses so his glasses go dark when he steps outside. Has anyone run into issues with this for wedding pictures? I don't want it to look like he is wearing sunglasses in every shot. I suggested ordering cheap glasses just for the day, but I don't think he is big on having a cheap alternative, he likes his expensive ones.

I wear glasses too, but I am comfortable alternating to contacts which I will probably do for most of the day.

I was in a wedding last June and the brides whole family hadtransitions. I think it looks pretty bad in photos. There's nothing wrong with taking a little money to get an inexpensive pair that looks half decent with a basic anti glare coating for the day . the lens won't be the best quality but if they aren't for every day wear who cares ?

I'm so glad I saw this post... My FH also wears transition lenses and is very much opposed to trying contacts... I hadn't thought about this being an issue, so I guess it's a good thing I have lots of time to find a solution.

Ya, it sucks because I know he really likes his current glasses and he would want to where nice glasses on the day of the wedding, not a cheap alternative.

I think he will have to suck it up because he will need a clear pair for the engagement shoot and a couple upcoming weddings as well.

What if he just doesn't wear them for pictures.

Transitions lenses are awful for photos. My father wore them for years and, in every photo, they were a kind of "bad 80's mobster in chenille track suit" bad.

If you can't convince him... maybe your photographer has a few photos he can share that might do the trick?

They look that way indoors sometimes too when flash photography is used. FH just ordered new glasses and I requested that he not get transitions, his current glasses are transitions, so I bought him a pair of prescription sunglasses too.

Transition lenses = very bad look in photos. My fiance's whole family took outdoor family pictures years ago, they all wear them and they all looked weird! You can still see their eyes through them like they were wearing old tinted lenses.

My fiance will wear contacts, but now I'm thinking of what his parents and sister will look like in our pictures. Yikes!
