Train regrets..

Private User, on May 11, 2015 at 5:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

So my wedding dress had this really long, beautiful train. My seamstress talked me into cutting it off, because (her reasons) a) it would cost a lot to do the bustles because there are so many layers b) it would be a big pain for my MOH to do the bustles after the ceremony and c) I'm not having a church wedding so I didn't "need" a train. Well, I have yet to see the dress minus the train, but I definitely regret saying she could cut it off. Smiley sad just wondering how many brides had trains, didn't have trains, and any reasoning you might have had! (Attached a photo of my dress with the train because omg it's beautiful)

edit: spelling

My train isn't very long, but I love it. Your train is absolutely gorgeous, but I know I would totally ruin it by the end of the night! How much did she cut off of it, the whole thing?

That is a pretty train. Did you remove the entire train or just shorten it?

I can't believe she said you didn't need one because you aren't having a church wedding. That's so odd. My dress has a train and my wedding is outdoors. When I first went dress shopping I was anti-train, but I ended up falling in love with a dress with a train.

Your dress looks beautiful. And I am sure it'll be beautiful with a shorter train. It'll make it easier for you to walk and less stress about someone stepping on it.

Yes, the whole thing. :'( I'm really upset about it now, but it's been two months since I dropped it off (it's a seamstress who works at the shop I got my dress at, but does alterations out of her home as well. My dress was cash & carry so they wouldn't do alterations through the shop) so I very highly doubt there's anything that can be done about it now.

Are you sure she's cut it off at this point? Maybe call and find out if it's already been done.

@Sarahdell No, not 100% positive, but it's been 2 months so... I will have to call and see, but she's probably cut it off by now.

What a bummer. Smiley sad It would make sense to me if she recommended shortening it a little bit, but I can't believe she told you that she should cut if all off!

That is a beautiful train, but there is a ton of it. I'm sure it'll look great and won't be a pain the whole night, trains are nice for pictures, but that would be one BEAST of a bustle, which probably wouldn't look great in all the reception pictures. It's a beatiful dress wihtout the train, so i think you made the right call.

I hadn't even thought about it prior to that moment, so at the time I was like well no, I don't need a train after you gave me all of those reasons not to have one... but now I just can't picture the dress without one...

Okay I'm going to try to make you feel better. Aside from it being pretty for pictures, a train is the MOST annoying thing. Mine was pretty long. My bustle lasted about .2 seconds during the reception because someone was always stepping on it, and I ended up carrying it the rest of the night. Photos will take longer as well if you have a long train and want to shoot in more than one spot because the logistics are just really hard. This was me the entire reception, holding the train. Just think about that. Maybe there is a way to add it as a removable layer so that you can have it for pics and then take it off later.

I'd call asap and see what she can do. Even if she can shorten it. The train is beautiful, but so is the rest of the dress. And if she cut it already, at least it will be out of your way.

It's pretty, but I feel like that very delicate tulle would be ruined by the second hour. It sucks that she didn't explain that part of it, because that may be the one thing that would make you feel better about it, along with the convenience of not having one. I couldn't stand it if my train got torn and filthy beyond fixing, so I'm going with something more manageable. I'm sure you'll love it just as much! Plus think of how light and easy it will be!

Its definitely worth calling and asking to see if she has cut it yet! I have gotten the feeling that some seamtresses don't work on the dress until it is absolutely necessary. That train does look like it would be really hard to bustle, though. The bustle may break and then you would be stuck lugging it around all reception.

I've worked with a seamstress before. She had so many projects going at once that she'd only get one done the week the bride was coming back. Definitely give her a call to see if she's started on yours yet.

I love the looks of trains but I don't want one on my dress. They can be a pain in the butt to bustle and they are always te first to get so dirty.

I had a long train and had it removed. I hate the look of bustles and didn't care to keep the train. I kept a little bit on but not long enough that it would be stepped on. This is the before.

And after (ww mobile wouldn't let me upload two pics in one post). I'm sooo happy I chose to cut it off.

I had a short train, so just a little hook and eye bustle. That thing kept coming undone. It kinda sucked. I would cry if I was your bridesmaid and had to figure out that bustle.

My dress has a train a mile long and I am keeping it. I am also having a wedding outdoors and it will be dragging along the grass. This is the way I see it: It is the only time ever I will wear a dress with a train, the photos will look amazing, it will be very dramatic. Furthermore, even if it were shortened it would still touch the floor, get dirty, and people would step on it. I am actually going to ask my seamstress how to safety pin it up if the bustle gives way. I am prepared to roll with the train lol
