Traditional vs writing your own wedding vows!

We stuck with the traditional vows. But the vows I have seen that are written on their own are always very beautiful.

I recently officiated a wedding where the groom read his (rather long) personal vows. Then the bride repeated after me the traditional vows. She was afraid she would get too emotional if she wrote and read her own. For her, the traditional vows were reassuring.

I think we will do both. My favorite part of wedding ceremonies is when the couple writes their own vows. I think it helps the guests get to know the couple in a different way and its also very special for the bride and groom.

We did our own. We had a "ten vow" formula to make sure ours were the same length.

Also, we made sure that our vows were not anecdotal...no stories about how we knew the other was "the one" or about the first time we met...or any of that. Just straight "I vow"

Traditional we are both more comfortable with. FH sucks at public speaking. and I just don't want to extra worry/work. I can tell him how I feel everyday.

I thought we were going to go the traditional route but FH wants to write them so I'm in! He says the vows is what its all about so this should be interesting...lol

We are writing our own ceremony, but also incorporating some traditional elements to it.

We are writing our own and you guys are giving me some good ideas. i was a little lost on how to do it.

i dont even think ill be able to talk lol so i need it to be as easy as possible and i think that the traditional route is the way to go. although FH thinks personal vows are what the guests want... well ha,,, sorry guests, i just dont want to pass out.
