Traditional Vows & writing your own.

*~*June2011*~*, on November 22, 2010 at 10:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

I know there are quite a few posts about vows on the discussion boards, but I have a question. Has anyone or does anyone plan on using traditional vows & using your own personal written vows. We are thinking baout doing this, but I would love some input.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean? A combination of "traditional" and self-written vows?

@Cabell- yes, doing the traditional vows & then reading our own self written vows.

I think you should either do your own or do traditional, one way this can work is by using the traditional but personalize it to your own words, I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for

I would need a better idea of what you mean by traditional here--I think I agree with Patricia that you can tweak whatever you consider to be traditional to maintain the general feel but also personalize it for yourselves.

Our vows are on our wedding website here: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding/UserViewWebsitePage?wid=3cc4f4da5e7672d7&pid=498c4819dac39102

As you can see, probably not very "traditional" although we did incorporate "I do" as a response.

We read statements to each other before our vows (little "declarations of love" to each other) and then did the traditional vows. I highly recommend it, everybody loved it and it was so much more special for us!

    Thanks Cabell & Mrs. Moore!

Mrs. Moore- I think that's what we will do. I want something more than just the traditional vows.

It is perfectly acceptable to use both types of vows. Having the traditional vows to build around sometimes makes it easier to keep your content focused.

When a couple want to write their own vows, I usually have the question of intent, worded somewhat like the traditional vows, before their own vows.

Patricia & binx: Aw, thanks. Smiley laugh And yeah, I did edit the website after the wedding to turn it into a little trip report for people who couldn't make it, since it was a small DW. I should really archive it...
