Traditional cake or dessert table??

Autumn, on October 31, 2018 at 10:22 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 26
I am in a bind on a decision about cake! Never thought I'd say that.... But here we are! So in my research and from observation from my friends weddings. Cake is becoming a dying trend and in it's place dessert tables are becoming very trendy. I have always know of having a big fancy cake that you cut in front of everyone and eat ....but then like half of the crowd doesn't eat it! So you just paid 300+ for a cake and most of it you're going to throw away! So I'm torn between should we have the big cake for everyone? Or should we have little desserts at a station, with a personal cake just for my FH and me to cut? Or should we just go all out and do both?? I personal lean toward the personalized cake with dessert table but I want to keep to tradition in some places!

I’ve only gone to two weddings recently and one did cupcakes from a gluten free bakery and the other I don’t think had dessert because it was such a huge wedding! I was set one getting mini cupcakes from a local place (that would also have a small cake for us) so guests can try two or three flavors if they want but I also want the grandeur of a beautiful 3-tier cake. I have no idea if a lot of it would to waste or not. I’m so torn too!

We are having a small, 1 tier cutting cake for pictures. Then a mini dessert table with cookies, brownies, candy, popcorn, cupcakes & cake pops. Maybe mini pies. But my fiance and I prefer those desserts over cake so it makes sense for us!

We are doing a two tier cake and then cookies and donuts! This way people who like cake can have it, and people who want other stuff can as well.

I know it's hard! Because you worry, are you spending money for something that might be wasted!.....And then you worry well what if my guest think I'm stiffing them .......and its just a big ole pile of worry!

We did dessert table only. We had no interest in cutting a cake just for a picture. Our venue offered individual sized desserts with their catering and a wedding cake in our area runs $10+ per slice. I didn’t want to spend a few grand on something I didn’t care about so we had 3 different types of desserts and it worked out great!

We are going to have a beautiful cake, I'm still sending her inspiration pictures with decor and a cake topper! It'll just be smaller. I've noticed it's cheaper too, and we are getting more options with the mini dessert bar. We are displaying them on really pretty trays & stands so it'll be a great looking table I think!

I think that will be wonderful! I believe I am going to go with a similar thing. I just feel thee is no need for a huge cake.

It's about the same in our area too! I really like the dessert station.... I believe I'm going with that... It's my wedding I'm sure my guest will love anything as long as they get dessert lol

Yea.... It is! We live in a very small mountian town that is based around catering to the upper class. I was born and raised here ❤ I essentially have my own hallmark movie town. But everything is through the roof in prices! You say the words event or wedding and they jack the price 3x what it was!

We are doing a small 2-tier cutting cake for ourselves and the wedding party, then cupcakes for the guests (which will not be displayed). We will also be having various other desserts, which include bite-sized brownies and mini pies! My mother owns a bakery and will be doing all of the above!

That's an amazing selection and I like the idea of just having the cake for the bridal party!

We did a small, 3 tiered cake. The baker said it would serve 70. We only had 38 guests, so I expected to have lots of cake left. We did save the top tier, but we only had 4 pieces left at the end of the night! The caterer cut and served it, so I know the slices were properly done. I guess people just really liked it and went back for more! I was shocked!

We will have a small cake for us to cut but for the guests, we will have cupcakes, mini cheesecakes and then probably some form of cookies or something

We’re doing both. A cupcake tower with a small two layer cake at the top and a dessert bar.
