Totally freaking out- invited more people than room can accommodate! What should I do? Anxiety attack coming..

We guaranteed 170 people, but the room can hold up to 220 people (max.). I sent invitations to 297 people. The wedding is in South Florida, and a few people live out of state and most likely wont come. But I just assumed all those in state would and my count for those I think are actually gonna come...

Do I tell anyone over the 220 that too bad, sorry we are out of room? I really dread having to do this. Any advice?

Don't stress. Breathe. There really is nothing you can do to fix the problem. Just don't stress about it until all the RSVPs come in. You might be stressing for nothing, it might all end up fine.

My suggestions is to wait on RSVP and for those who dont RSVP by the date DO NOT call, then if they come to the wedding and dont have a seat its because they didnt RSVP, then it seems like it there fault LOL I know seem kind of harsh but it may solve your problem.

10% could be no show. So that is actually 25 less. Maybe you could have a couple of tables with extra people--skinny people.

You don't need favors for everyone. Most will not take them, unless they are edible, unique, and small enough to fit in a small purse or pocket.

You're going to have seating assignments of course and someone you trust to take care of the ppl who suddenly show up or not show up and tell them where they can sit.

Once the rsvp date has passed phone all of the unreplied guests and tell them that you're very sorry they can't make and you notifyed the caterer that they won't be atteneding, and you had to give the final head count TODAY. What is the RSVP date, how many replied yes so far? and how many are left to reply?

    Barefoot bride is correct.

For some reason, people who have yet to officially send in an rsvp believe that they can just show up to your wedding reception because they did not actually send it in as a "no".

    So be careful there too.

Yeah, I actually agree with Barefoot--if they don't RSVP, can't come! And like she said, call them so they really understand that there is no food or space for them.

Also, as others said, people who definitely can come tend to RSVP in advance, so you'll get less replies and more "no's" as the RSVP date gets closer.

If you are doing plated, buffet can often up the number of people a room can hold. I often see numbers like "150 seated, 175 buffet, 200 cocktail." So definitely talk to your venue once you get your numbers if you are still having a problem.

Remember, panicking won't change anything other than upset you. Calmer you are, the better decisions you will make. Deep breathes and relaxing will only help you Smiley smile

Thank you for the advice. I am gonna use what you said. If they don't rsvp..then they dont get to come. Nicely and calmly tell them that we are sorry they can't make it and we will miss them. Thank you ladies!

You should do a "if you dont rsvp your not coming" rule! lol thatll cut the list down dramatically!
