Too white?

So my friend just emailed me and a few of our friends a picture of this dress and asked if it was too white to wear to a wedding as a guest. So which I responded, umm who wants 3 opinions when you can ask the forums? duh. So weigh in here! Not my dress so I will not be offended by anything ...

I would not wear that to a wedding as a guest. But, I would not be offended if someone wore that to my wedding. So, it's probably okay? But I also think that if you have to ask if it's appropriate....then you know your answer.

I wouldn't be offended if someone wore that to my wedding, but as a guest, I'd probably choose something else just to be on the safe side.

I wouldn't mind if someone wore that to my wedding, but I wouldn't risk wearing it as a guest to someone else's wedding. Maybe if it was paired with a black sweater or even if the stripes started with black at the top instead of the white.

I wouldn't wear it. I think anything 50% white or more is a deal breaker

I think its fine. And you could even have fun colored shoes, jewelry, cover up, etc to make it less white. I wouldn't even think twice if I saw someone wearing that at a wedding.

It looks nice, but I would personally never wear that much white to a wedding. Even if the bride didn't mind, your friend may feel uncomfortable under the disapproving stares of some of the more traditional guests. Does she already own the dress? If not, is she aware that it is also available in blue?

As someone said earlier, it looks a lot like a rehearsal dinner or shower dress. Personally, I wouldn't wear it but I agree with Elizabeth, if you have to ask, you have your answer.

My rule is if there is more white than any other color, I won't wear it to a wedding.

If she has to ask, it's probably not ok. You can always find something cute in another color. I'd say stay away from anything white.

Thanks guys! I just emailed her this post Smiley smile

And I agree with everyone on this thread. Definitely a grey area, I wouldn't wear it, but I play it extra safe. When it doubt, don't wear it Smiley smile

I also play it super safe and I wouldn't wear it. I wore a black dress with two thin white stripes on the skirt to a wedding and actually questioned that. I do like the rule above that if there's more white than any other color, don't wear it.

Deffintely depends on the bride and your (her) relationship to her. I would stray away from anything that has more than half white( especially when its near the face). I would probably not say anything but i would be a little irked if someone wore that to my wedding.

This is going to sound super specific and annoying, but I would wear it if the colors were flipped, like black was on top and where the white is and the white is where the black is, because people take a lot of pictures of the top halves of themselves, and may be confused for the bride with the whole top part being white. haha

I, personally, probably wouldn't wear it as a wedding dress. I think it's okay, but there are probably less bridal-looking dresses out there for a guest.

My only concern is a picture that is just like the shoulders and head (or if the guest is standing behind someone and you can't see all of her dress) it might make it look it's only white. It might be odd later looking back at pictures.

It isn't terrible and if it's the only dress she has then fine, but if she's going shopping for a dress anyway, I'd just choose another.

I would say no. If this person and the bride took a picture from the shoulders up, it would look like a wedding dress. I wouldn't be super upset if someone wore this to my wedding but I think it's in bad taste. Better to play it on the safe side!

I love it, and it doesn't look like a wedding dress, but to me white lace just says bride. I wouldn't wear it as a guest to a wedding. But I think I want to own it to wear to some of my wedding events!

I just checked out that link, and I like the dress even more in blue.
