Too many guests!

Alexandria, on January 19, 2020 at 3:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi guys. I’m freaking out because I’ve invited too many people to my wedding. Does anyone know how many people on average are actually going to show up?

You always want to budget for 100% of your inviting guests attending the wedding. That being said, the average is about 20%. You don't want to bank your budget on that figure though because if it is less, then you can run into trouble.

    Have invites already gone out?
If they have, is this the limit permitted in your venue? If you have exceeded that number then I would recommend you see if your venue can accommodate you elsewhere. You always want to prepare for everyone to come.

We invited 160, 141 RSVP’d yes. One of the people who RSVP’d yes backed out a week in advance but otherwise the rest of the 140 people showed up

Typically you can expect about 20% to RSVP "no" if you are having a local wedding and many of the guests live in the area. That number is usually higher for destination weddings or if you have a high number of guests that need to travel.

However, you should never invite more guests than you have capacity or budget for, hoping some will decline. If every single person you invite says "yes" you need to have a plan to accommodate them.

I invited 82 and we had 44. Many people weren’t able to travel.

As you can see from PPs it’s all over the place. I think it really depends on your friends/family and if your wedding is local or not. If RSVPs have already gone out then you might just have to wait it out assuming your venue holds enough. We sent out save the dates through an evite and initially got a lot of yes replies that we didn’t anticipate. We adjusted our venue space and increased the guest list as a result. I’m just hoping we hit out food/beverage min. But if we get significantly more it will blow our budget. But I’ve been saving up on the side based on the cost of 100% attendance.

This is literally my biggest fear so you’re so lucky only 1 backed out! I’m such a penny pincher anyways it’s really going to make me mad to pay for headcount of people who don’t show..

There really isn't an average. I'd plan on everyone saying yes and budgeting for that, then you'll be relieved when it's less. We invited 225 and had 125 attend, but a ton of ours were out of state (a few out of the country) and we invited full families and plus ones.
