Too many desserts or enough

CountryBride, on November 1, 2020 at 6:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

We are having a full Viennese hour and here is what I have on our menu I don't want to waste money but I know not everyone likes cake so here is a basic rough draft what we will be serving, During this hour we will be having late night bites that are savory to help counter the sweetness

we are having a 4 tier wedding cake

cupcakes

cookies

brownies

mini cheesecakes

mini pies

Mousse cups

fruit tarts

In my opinion, that is too many...unless you’re having a huge wedding, which is probably not the case due to Covid. I would say 2 items / pieces per guest is sufficient. Nobody needs to eat 3 desserts!

If you have enough people for that may desserts, I would not have cupcakes and cake. And if you have mini pies, not fruit tarts too.
Baklava is another popular thing different from all you have. And easy, and like brownies, make a trayful, easy to transport and serve. Which is nice when you have Cake, mini pies and cheesecake which are yum but more awkward to carry and serve. Or, have canned in own juice pineapple, one food service can.

Seems like a good variety. We did the following for 180ish guests. This was on top of cake for each person.

All our desserts were completely gone before the night was over. I didn’t even try anything but the cake. :/

    - 7dz mini carrot cake with cream cheese frosting cupcakes- 7dz mini cream puffs- 7dz lemon bars- 7dz cheesecake bites with whip cream only- 4dz mini fruit bites- 6dz assorted macarons- 7dz chocolate covered strawberries

I think it’s too much. That’s a lot of desserts even for a huge wedding.

I agree. No one would think badly of you, or even know, if you cut out several items. Didn't you say you'd also serve some savory items? If so, save the money to put elsewhere.

How many guests are you expecting?

My thoughts are I think there can never be to much food. Lol Im polish so we always have a ton of food at our event. And my wedding will be no different. We plan on having a lot of desserts. But you do need to take into consideration how many guests will be attending.

Typically with a Viennese Hour, 85% doesn't get eaten and you don't get to take home leftovers. Guests are stuffed from the cocktail hour so they can barely eat the main dinner and no room left for dessert.

I would do the cake OR half to 1/3 max of the other desserts with no cake.
