Too early to start registry?

Hello!

I had a few questions about gift registries!

1.) How early should a registry be started? Is it too early to start now?

2.) How many places should you register at?

I have heard that a good rule of thumb is to average 2 gifts per invited guest so that there are plenty of options for your guests to choose from. I also have planned (and heard) to have gifts in varying price ranges.

Should I try to find 1 place where I can register for everything? I kinda peeked around and seem to have different things from like 3 places that I really love, but still don't even have enough if I am aiming for 2 per person. I also want to avoid being gift grabby so I guess I am just not sure what the proper etiquette for a registry is.

Thanks in advance!

ETA: Please let me know if I have heard improper advice! Most of the advice I received was from family or friends who are married, or from google, which is not always a wedding planners best friend!

I wouldn't duplicate items on two registries. For example: I wouldn't register for the same blender at both stores, but I might register for some pots at Macy's and other, different pots at BB&B.

I have BBB, Macys and Crate & Barrel.

BBB has the majority of items - their price point is usually lower on items.

I registered in store all three times. I like seeing things in person -- but did research ahead of time on brand reputation, reviews, etc.

I registered fairly early at bed bath and beyond and Macy's, but kept my registries on private for the time being. That way things can be changed, added, deleted etc over time and not have to worry about forgetting things if I did it all at once. No harm in starting early in my opinion but yes, the lady at the store told me the number of items on the registry should be double the guest count of the shower and have a nice price range between the items so there's something everyone is comfortable/able to spend

We started ours about 2 weeks ago and we are still working on tweaking them & deciding whether or not to consolidate/delete one of them

Currently we have Amazon, Macy's, Crate and Barrel and Anthropologie

The bulk of the items are from C&B and Macy's with just a few things from Anthropologie and Amazon

We have 150 guests invited but probably only 100 guests who would want to give a gift so we are aiming to register for 150-200 items but aren't nearly there because we are very picky and like to keep things minimal and specific. We shall see how it goes

Websites like zola.com or myregistry.com are cool because you can add things from different stores and have it all neatly in one place! And it's never too early to start your registry (mine's just about done and I still have over 13 months! It's fun to do online in your spare time!)

We didn't really know what we wanted/needed so we just went to Bed Bath and Beyond and looked around for some things there and put them on the registry. We also went to crate and barrel just because we liked the store. Our person at BB&B said the same thing, to have at least two gifts for every person. FH and I didn't like the sound of that because it seemed gift grabby. So we registered for things we turned out needing (we realized once we were in the store) and then a few things here and there that we wanted but didn't really need. I like the fact that we can go online and remove/add items that we didn't see in the store whenever we want. It was a fun trip to go and the scanner thing is fun to use. We ended up with enough gifts for maybe 1 for every person but we really aren't worried about the gifts, but just be careful because BB&B person tried to get us to register for more than we were comfortable with but we told her we were good with what we picked out and she left us alone at that point.
