Too booked up

Chelsea, on July 28, 2019 at 5:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
I'm stuck in a situation. We are having our wedding in a college town. There is a home football game that day. Almost all the hotels are booked up and I don't what to do. Some of the guests are out of town. Any ideas? I really don't want to move the date

How many guests might need accommodations?
Could you just give everybody a heads up that hotels are already booked and to look into air b&b/vrbo?

Airbnb/Vrbo. Also are there any hotels a bit further out? You could do a room block a bit out & rent a shuttle bus to drive everyone to the venue.

Would you get one place for everyone? I don't know how to handle it. All around the area is booked.

I also live in a college town so I know how it can go lol. My suggestion would be find a hotel that is semi-close that isn’t booked up & has some things (stores/bars/restaurants) near it (that way the guests can socialize if they want). Make a hotel block there. Talk to the hotel, they may have a shuttle bus that you can rent out (we are doing this for $300, and they are giving us unlimited shuttle services to the hotel an hour before and an hour shuttle service for an hour after). You could also google shuttle services (they are hard to find after Uber, but can be found) and contract them out for the day. Usually shuttle services requires a whole day commitment vs. a few hrs like the hotel shuttle & the cost in my area was about $700 - $800, but guests can leave whenever as the shuttle sits near the venue.

I would let guest know how far away it is if you did that. My fiancé and I do Uber for events like this do we can both drink. I think I would search really hard for a closer air b n b or a hotel with just 1 room left.

VRBO!! Get guests that know each other (or you think would be best to stay with each other) to stay in a place together and split the cost! Maybe they could stay right outside of the city if that doesn’t work??

Bummer. Unfortunately this should have been figured out way ahead of time especially considering the football season! It's 2 months away to your wedding. You could've had a hotel block already, but that's not to say they probably would have still been jacked up in price just because it is a football weekend. I would try really hard to look at airbnbs locally and check any hotels that may be a half hour away.
