Toasting Glasses - necessary or not?

FH and I started working on our registry this past weekend (the STDs were sent out and I know more than a few people who were invited like to rush out and buy the gift as soon as they get the STD so they get first pick on the registry) and we were looking at toasting glasses. At first I got caught up in how pretty the glasses were. FH gave his input too, but he was the typical guy. We got home and I continued thinking about the glasses...and then about how those pretty glasses would probably collect dust over the upcoming decades! Here's what I'm thinking: Do we spend the money on the toasting glasses, which we will use one time? Or do we use two of the pretty champagne glasses we added to the registry instead? I'm torn between wanting to have the tradition of fancy toasting glasses and not wanting to spend a silly amount of money on glasses we'll use only one time.

I threw some on our registry thinking no one would buy them, but someone did. They are Kate Spade and one of them says 'Mr.' and the other says 'Mrs.' I like that they aren't overly flashy. They had photo frames that matched and we are going to choose a wedding photo to put in one of the frames and set it up next to the glasses in our house. We'll do a toast on each anniversary. Definitely not necessary, but I am glad we have them.

We're not putting them on the registry, but are purchasing toasting glasses (pictured) from Things Remembered. We will use them every year at your anniversary.

Toasting glasses would be impractical for us because we are beer drinkers so we got personalized beer mugs to toast with instead because it is more us

My mom kept nagging me to get them. Found a pair of cute champaing glasses at Marshalls for $9.99. Amazon has a cake cutter set for $4.99. Got both since I will only use them one day and will keep my mom quiet. All under $20.

Been thinking about it... I still have two sets of 4 champagne glasses in their boxes in my bar. From my first wedding in 1998. Yep. Didn't even know I still had them until I moved into my house and unpacked them.

Not necessary. I can't even remember if we had special toasting glasses for my first marriage. I did get a cake cutting set. We use that still. Not having cake this time, so no need for it. We may do toasting glasses for our wedding, but still undecided. I found a nice pair of Green Bay Packer wine glasses I like on Amazon. Since we're not big on champagne, I thought those would be cool.

Definitely not necessary, but I'm sentimental. I would have bought our own toasting glasses, but we were actually gifted not one but TWO sets of toasting flutes! One is more formal, and one is more fun (they have the Utz girl and Natty boh guy painted on them!). We used the more formal ones at our wedding, and have both displayed on our dining room hutch.

Not! The cake cutter is another extra that you don't need either. All you'll do is wrap them up to protect them for later use. And by later I mean never see them again unless you move or feel like cleaning out the attic.
