To veill or not to veil?

Alicia, on March 4, 2019 at 1:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

I am so on the fence about whether I want to wear a veil or not. What made you decide for or against a veil?

This is the only time in my life that I'll get to wear a veil, so I'm going for it. I also think it gives you a very bridal look.

I’m not wearing a veil. I knew I didn’t want it over my face regardless. My FH said “what’s the point of even having one of you don’t put it over your face” trying to get me to change my mind.. he made me decide not to wear one instead.

I was set with not having a veil but a veil made me feel my outfit was complete. I am going with a veil that does not cover my face. It really is just personal preference. You’ll look great either way!

I’m skipping it mostly because I don’t like the look of them on me and I don’t want to deal with having it on my head. I’m not actually sure what it’s for, so I’m guessing it’s a pretty outdated tradition?

It's a once in the life time thing so I am. I got a cathedral veil to add drama to my dress

As a veil designer, I agree. This is the only time in your life that you'll wear one. Just wear it to the ceremony if you don't want to wear it to the reception. A veil gives you a special feeling of being a bride; something to do with that ethereal, sheer fabric billowing around you. I've had many friends who didn't want one and are so glad they changed their minds. At least try a few on. There are so many different styles.

I was on the fence too, so I think I'm going with an easy to manage half size one that matches my dress style without being distracting or irritating. I found some I really like in the bridal veil section on Azazie

I knew from day one I didn't want a veil. IN my opinion they are just a waste of money plus with my hair style I doubt I could get one to stay right.

The tradition started in ancient times as a way to present the bride as modest and pure. and also was used to ward off evil spirits trying to thwart the bride's happiness. It was also used to hide the bride's face from her groom in arranged marriages so the groom couldn't look at her and back out before the marriage ceremony. So yeah, the actual traditions behind it are antiquated and sexist (as most wedding traditions are).

There are so many styles of veils, as long as you pick one you like, go for it! They photograph beautifully and it’s the one time you’ll be able to wear one.

My fiancé is not into veils, and it's going to be so hot out the day of, it's just an easy "no." Granted, I get that they're super bridal, but that also might be a step too far for me; I don't want to feel like I'm playing dress up that day, I want to feel like me.

I tried one on event though I didn’t think I wanted one, it made me feel like a bride! I’ll just be wearing it for the ceremony and then taking it off for the reception. My veil is a pretty simple too.

I was against a veil for a while because I thought my hair couldn't hold it and I didn't think it would make a big difference but MAN I WAS WRONG.

Some of my favorite wedding photos are the ones where I'm wearing my veil, actually.

Super glad I bought one, it really completed the look. I paid about $50 for mine from Blanca Veils and I don't think I would have spent a penny more anywhere else. I would never buy an expensive one to wear for a short period of time, but it was so worth it for the price for the few hours I had it in before the reception.

I originally didn't want a veil, but changed my mind after my mom said "you will only get one chance in your life to wear one." Sooo, I've decided to wear one for the ceremony and take it off for the reception.

I think you should wear whatever makes you feel beautiful! I am fairly traditional and getting married in a house of worship, so I am wearing a veil with a blusher. There are so many styles, but I've seen brides look awesome without them. Good luck!

I was set against it for our DW dress. But then the dress came in, I tried on a veil, SOLD!

For my local reception, I wanted a shoulder veil because it matched our 50's/60's theme:

I'm not wearing a veil. I'm not a fan plus covering my face in what looks like a mosquito net doesn't work for me 🤣.

Hahaha. If I do wear one, it will definitely not be an over-the-face style. I can't stand having my face covered!

Thank you! We are having a religious ceremony, but not in a church.
