To Veil or Not to Veil

Nicole, on July 26, 2019 at 11:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 32
Alright all. Here’s a question for you. To veil or not to veil? I’m torn on whether or not to have one for the ceremony as I never really saw myself wearing one for my wedding. If I do go with one, I’d do a simple pencil edge cathedral length, as pictured. (Vine headpiece will be worn and hair will be up in a similar fashion, but obviously done by a professional!) I’ve also included a picture of the back of the dress. My concern would be that a veil would take away from the back. I know I don’t have to make the decision now, but the veil in the pictures is 75% off until Sunday only (making it under $100!) so it’s definitely making me think.

I don't think the veil takes away from the back of your dress. Besides, you don't have to wear it all day, so there will be plenty of time to show off the back.

I feel it lacks details. I'd go veil less. Your dress stands out on its own.

I agree with Brandi above, it lacks details, Etsy has beautiful ones for that price or you can go to ⬇️ accessories and get something for similar price. Your dress will look good also with no veil. https://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/users/home

I don't think it adds or takes away much to the whole look. But you can never go wrong if you want a veil.

How did the veil make you feel? If you felt more bridely/gorgeous etc. I would opt for the veil! If you still feel you are just not a veil kinda gal I would skip out. Also things to consider is your venue, if you are going to be outside and it could possibly be windy I would think about do you want your veil blowing around haha.

The veil you're looking at is so beautifully simplistic and definitely doesn't take away from your gorgeous gown & back. Plus you have the reception to take off the veil and show off your back details!!

I tried on one with a more detailed trim and it really took away from the dress, hence the leaning toward the pencil edge.

We’ll be outside the entire time. The veil didn’t make me feel one way or another. I also never had “the moment” with the dress, so I don’t believe a veil will sway me toward feeling bridal. Ugh. This has been the hardest part of the entire wedding because I don’t have a clear vision about it! Haha.

I’d go very sheer, raw edge with a veil for that dress. Maaaybe some appliqué at the end of the veil if it will be longer than your train. I wanted a veil because photographers can shoot some very gorgeous, very romantics photos using your veil in different ways. So that might be another point for you to consider. 😊

Thanks, all. I reached out to my photographers and they said they’ve gotten some beautiful looks with cathedral veils, so I think I may just go for it. Now to find a silver pencil edged one that doesn’t break the bank!

I have a gorgeous corset back wedding gown and I'm wearing a veil for the ceremony but not for the reception. Maybe that's an option for you? I don't think the veil really takes away from the dress any and would say this is just a matter of preference

Yeah, no matter what, there won’t be a veil for the reception. Too much fabric to deal with. It would strictly be for the ceremony and pictures.

It looks good both ways, I’m traditional in that I like to have a veil for the ceremony but then it comes off you you dance the night away without one!

I'm Team Veil! I thought about not wearing one, but then I thought about how this might be my only chance to wear one

I'm definitely not a tiara girl. But I'm leaning toward the veil. Like Cher said above, you really only get an opportunity to wear one once!
