To sleeve? Or not to sleeve?

So I had my first fitting today! And I’m a bit torn. I originally wanted a dress with sleeves, but I couldn’t get one! So, I bought extra fabric with the intention of potentially adding them, although I was ok if it couldn’t be done – I’d prefer no sleeves to ones that looked like they didn’t...

So I had my first fitting today! And I’m a bit torn.

I originally wanted a dress with sleeves, but I couldn’t get one! So, I bought extra fabric with the intention of potentially adding them, although I was ok if it couldn’t be done – I’d prefer no sleeves to ones that looked like they didn’t belong, or that looked like they were an afterthought, if I’m making sense.

My seamstress whipped up a sleeve to give me an idea today, and here it is. I do love it. It’s what I originally wanted, but I’m worried it looks like it doesn’t belong. I’m also nervous because most people seem to think sleeves make you look old. What do you think?

I feel like this is what most people are going to think, so good to know!

I know realistically, some people will prefer it with, others will prefer it without, and some will hate it either way, so I should just do what I want, haha! but I still wanted to hear what people thought and why so I'm glad you weighed in!

I did consider another topper - my alterations lady said she thought it would be hard to find one that would match the lines well, and I think I'd need her help/support to make sure it fit perfectly over the dress, so I was put of by her comments, although I like the fact it would be removable.

And the sleeve length - good point! She just quickly put the sleeve together in 5 minutes so it wouldn't need to be that length. I quite liked that length, as it's probably where I generally pull my sleeves up to, day to day, but I get what you're saying and will think on it some more!

Haha, like in sister act? I'm imagining bursting into OH HAPPY DAY on my walk down the aisle, LOL. I think I've always liked Maria's dress from the Sound of Music, so maybe that's why I like it so much? And you're not wrong - it is a bit... churchy.

Thank you! And this is a good idea. My mum did suggest making them velcro, and then instead of a garter toss or a bouquet toss, I could rip them off dramatically before our first dance, LOL

I do love a 3/4 sleeve! I think the flair could be interesting.. although we'd have to avoid having a soup course, I know myself too well and would end up with a sleeve of soup, haha!

I like the sleeves it's a classic hollywood vibe. They do look like part of the dress honestly I didn't notice there was only one sleeve at first.
