To resize...or not to resize!

MarchIsComing, on September 20, 2017 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Hi all! So I've had my ering for about 4 months now and I'm trying to decide if I should get it resized or not. Throughout the day, my ering twirls around, slides up towards my knuckle, and feels like it will come off when I get my hands wet (though it hasn't *knocks on wood*). Only reason why I haven't resized it yet is because I hear you need to get it made a half size larger with a wedding band.

I've attached a pic of how far the ring moves up quite easily without any pulling. To get it off, I bend my finger and it twists off...unless I've just woken up or have been laying down for a little. My biggest fear is that I get it resized and it's too small! I think Kay's only offers half size resizing...anyone know if they do quarter sizes too???

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's a side view of me gently pushing up on the ring...looking at the picture, it looks worse than it actually is

Resize. I'd be very upset if I lose it. I had to resize mine.

Kay does offer quarter sizing. Be prepared to be without your ering for at least 2 weeks unfortunately. They don't have a jeweler in store so they ship it off. Super annoying. I would resize though. Mine was the exact same way and I got it sized down a bit and it fits perfect now

Zales also does resizing....I'd definitely resize your ring .....it's not permanent you can always get it resized again so don't let it worry you. I waited months to resize mine because I was worried it would be too small. Went down half a size and I'm so happy I did. It still fits loose enough but doesn't spin around.

Resize or at least get a spacer! That makes me so nervous

Get it resized. Your ring should not twirl around your finger. Size it to your finger not your knuckle. My FH bought my ring in 5.5. It was way too big. I measured a 4.5 and sized the ring to a 4.75 so I can get a wedding band in 4.5.

Ideally it should take you about 1-3 seconds to get it off your finger and over your knuckle. If it just comes right off... Too big.

    My ring is currently a 4.5, I'm nervous to resize it to a 4, so I'm thinking a 4.25?

@Angel C. I have seen that 1-3 second rule of thumb before, and it does take about two seconds to get it off which is another reason why I have waited, but I still feel like it's too loose Smiley sad

It should take a little effort to get off- if you take it off and on in front of a jeweler they should be able to confirm for you. Also- after you wear your ring (at the smaller size) for a bit the muscle I def the ring will star to deteriorate- so it will likely be a bit tighter at first. FH and I went through a local jeweler for my ring, they do 1/4 sizes.

Definitely looks like it needs to be resized but I would recommend someone that can do it in-house. Zales had my rings for 5 weeks now. Don't be like me....

Go to a real jeweler. They should be able to do quarter sizes, and they'll measure you and tell you what you need. I've never heard you should get your ering larger than your band. My band and ring are the same size and they look and feel great.

I purchased these of amazon. I was debating about having my ring resized and these keep my ring on without spinning or moving. It's a temporary measure until you decide!

I lost about 30lbs over the course of my 2 year engagement, and my ring looked like yours does right now. I took it in to get it resized and they ended up having to take it down a full size for me, and now it fits perfect.

If you have that much room, I'd definitely say it's worth taking in. I have significantly less mini heart attacks now that mine fits properly, lol!

Until you decide you can try ring snuggles. They are tiny plastic coils that you wrap on the inside of your ring.

I would definitely get that resized. I was told that soldering the rings together sometimes tightens them very slightly, but I had my e-ring sized down to fit perfectly now.

OP it still looks too big. Try a sizer in 4.25 and 4. A good jeweler should have advice after watching you take it on and off. Mine convinced me to size down and it is perfect. I'm slightly claustrophobic about tight rings but yours definitely looks too loose.

    Do it girl do it!!

My ring did that exact same thing and looked just like that when I pushed up in it. I was hesitant at first two and actually waited four months as well (wanted to see how it'd do with fingers swelling in the summer heat). The decision was made for me when I was putting on sunscreen in a gas station (I'm basically allergic to the sun, don't judge) and it came off and I almost didn't notice!! So this past weekend I decided to go have it resized and it was a great decision! Our jeweler offered quarter sizes, but I went down a a whole half a size. And I was super lucky that since I came in from out of town they were able to help me get it in the same day! It's a little hard to get over my knuckle now, but not hard enough to worry. It doesn't twist or shift anymore and I definitely don't have to worry about it slipping off or twisting and getting damaged. If it is too small, they can just resize again.

Definitely get that ring resized! I actually got mine resized for the second time today down from a 5.75 to a 5.25. Mine fit like yours did in the picture for about 8 months but I wore the ringo with it that previous poster recommended. However, even with my wedding band the ring was too loose and I wasn't taking any chances.

Go someplace local. Read reviews on google/yelp to find someplace reputable. I dropped my ring off this morning at 10 am and picked it up at 6pm.

Try adding knots or little beads on it. A jeweler can do that for you, that's what I did and it worked great! So comfy.
