To cancel or not

Hey all! So originally my wedding was supposed to be January 30th of this year. Because of covid we rescheduled for January 29th 2022. Anyone else 6 months out and freaking out about it getting as bad as it was 6 months ago?

That sounds like you don't need final head count until 4 weeks before and they want soft numbers 6 weeks out.

They wording says final head count 6 weeks and final payment 4 weeks but maybe I can kinda fudge it a few days.

I sense your anxiety, and still think it's early. But, should you make decisions, your park minimony will still be very special and beautiful. But, please don't just "go home". Let your loved ones celebrate your commitment and share a post-ceremony meal together.

If I have to cancel it's because it wouldn't be safe to gather in groups
Even if dining in is technically allowed it wouldn't be a good idea. If it gets as bad again as is being predicted based on the new variants and the concerns about high viral loads in vaccinated people and vaccine efficacy.

I’m a microbiology professor and I have to step in here with some scientific help. The reporting form the nytimes on the CDC report is incredibly irresponsible alarmist click bait. Vaccinated people are wayyy less likely to get the virus and thus wayyy less likely to transmit. Vaccines are nearly 90% effective against the delta variant. Vaccines are safe and effective and how we will get out of this thing!

I am vaccinated. I got vaccinated the minute I could. I completely agree that it is safe and really our way of putting this behind us. Maybe the reports I've read have been wrong, but they all said that with the Delta variant the viral load in vaccinated people is high enough to transmit and that's why the recommendation of vaccinated people to wear masks was made. I haven't seen a ton on the Lambda variant but what I have see says it's not really effective against it. It's comforting to hear what you said. Maybe they were wrong. I hope so. I just want everyone to be able to get back being able to spend time with family and friends and not being worried about getting too close.

Sydney haven't you seen that people don't listen to science anymore? 😅

But anyway even if vaccinated people do get covid it's much less severe. That's been the whole point of the vaccine. At this point it's mostly dangerous for the children and the unvaccinated (but that's on them at this point unless they have a medicine issue)

My advice as someone who has moved their wedding once already - move forward as planned. If you have to downsize, downsize. If you need masks, wear a mask. There’s no guarantee when this mess will be over - it could be years from now! We have many more tools on our belt to leverage than last year, so I’m hopeful this can turn for the better.

As for the vaccines/mandating masks/tests for your guests, I get it. But, at the end of the day, if someone has chosen not to be vaccinated and attend a large function, that is entirely on them. Those who are vaccinated should be safe, which should give you peace of mind. Those who are not, have willingly chosen to put themselves at risk.
