I have gone to two different consultations to get my dress altered and both of them are insisting that I bustle my dress. I've never wanted to bustle it, I love my train, it's not incredibly long and I prefer a different way of holding it up. We're not having dancing and that's the only thing that I can think of that would make a bustle necessary. Did anyone else decide not to bustle? How did it turn out?

The other issue is that trains kind of just look like a wad of fabric in pictures if they are not perfectly laid out behind you-- so you may want to have someone designated to straighten it out for you all night. . .

I bustled by dress and any part of the skirt that touched the ground got stepped on or worse, as I was going table to table, people literally put their chairs down on my skirt. In addition I would caution that as light as you think your shirt is holding it up all night will get heavy. You may find that you like the bustle (I ended up keeping my dress bustled from the time I put it on all night long. I just liked how the back looked bustled)
