To bugspray or not to bugspray?

Our ceremony is outdoors in the middle of the afternoon by a pond. I'm putting together a comfort basket...tissues, fans, bugspray? I'm not sure how much of a problem bugs will or will not be in the Hudson Valley in late June. I've looked at natural sprays and lotions but I'm thinking they will be...

I'm not sure how much of a problem bugs will or will not be in the Hudson Valley in late June. I've looked at natural sprays and lotions but I'm thinking they will be greasy or smell "natural".

Is it just good to have the option? Ceremony will only be 15 minutes then we move to a covered deck with fans for cocktail hour and indoors with A/C for reception. I just can't decide. Thoughts and suggestions great appreciated!

I'm definitely bookmarking their website. We'll probably get a couple for the new house once we find one we like lol. I have no problems smelling like bug spray though. Especially at a fraction of the cost.

I was thinking the nice smelling wipes will probably be your best bet, just incase someone has an allergy to the repellants they can choose to use it if they want to.

@Leesha none of the great bug repellents they have in the States ever seem to be available in Canada!

Thermacell HAS to ship to Canada. Check Cabela's websites, and other hunting goods.

WTF, its number 1 use is bear hunting in BC!

ETA: Canadian customers may purchase online at www.cabelas.ca and www.homedepot.ca.

    boom.

You can fog it if they let you. My friends got married at their family farm and they fogged the shit out of the area every other day for a week.

The deep woods one says it's the unscented formula and covers more insects http://m.off.com/deep-woods-repellent-towelettes.html

@m -- THANK YOU!!! I am so getting some Thermacell lanterns for our balcony. Mosquitoes like to devour me and ignore everyone else, so you have seriously just revolutionized my life.

ETA: omg, noooo. They won't ship to California?! I guess I'll have to head over to the Home Depot site along with the Canadians Smiley smile

FutureMrsT - come back and let everyone know how WELL they work, because I don't think anyone ever believes me! This will actually change the entire way you live your life. As someone who has camped all over the country her entire life, I nearly cried when I found these.

@MrsPope that is terrible! I'm so sorry that happened! @m I'm definitely going to look into those for our house! We live on a lake and we use citronella candles but they never quite do the trick. We always have to wait for a strong breeze to eat outside on the deck during the summer.

Our venue is really busy every year for weddings so I'll definitely talk to our coordinator about what they do. I think the wipes will be easiest as a temporary offering for the guests.

@m those are really nice looking! And they ship to NJ! I'm definitely ordering some for our dock and back deck. We're having a big open house/BBQ for our out-of-town family two days before the wedding so they will be perfect!

Our ceremony is outside, next to a river canal mid June and I hadn't even thought about this. I'll let it be FH's responsibility, he works in pest control! Yes, he can take those reigns for sure lol

Put dryer sheets anywhere you can. Under your dress, in pockets, in between boobs. They keep the mosquitos away & they smell fabulous. I went to an outdoor wedding & they had boxes of dryer sheets for the guests - now I use them all the time.

@Marisslee I feel like I've heard that before but totally didn't remember. Thanks! That's another great option.

I actually don't use bug spray. All I do is put a dryer sheet in my back pocket and I don't get bite. I don't know how it works but some how it does. Depending on your dollar store some have mosquito bracelets that work awesome too. I do a lot of camping with small children and do the same with the dryer sheet with them. Good luck

Ask your venue about it. They may either and or provide bug spray or dfog or treat the grass around your area. Ps I was an avon lady and that skin so soft doesnt work.

My ceremony and cocktail hour are outside by a river in late May. I'm sure my venue doesn't spray or fog because they have an apiary and organic farm on property. I'm providing the wipes in welcome bags and wipes and spray in baskets around the space. I hate bugs! I am allergic to mosquito bites; I get painful huge welts, and those f**ers find me everywhere.
