Titanium VS. White Gold

Mrs. Williams, on July 5, 2012 at 10:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Any ladies purchasing Titanium rings for their FH? I like white gold but my FH recently stated/hinted he wouldn't mind a Titanium ring?

I didn't purchase one, but thought about it. I've heard they are much more durable than white gold, so they don't scratch as easily (although, you can get a care package with white gold some places and they will buff out small packages when they re-do the rhodium coating...lol learned this when I scratched my e-ring recently...).

But, I also think they're one of the metals that can't be re-sized, so if that's a concern, you may not want that.

My FH said he wants a Titanium ring. His ring, his choice. I don't have to wear it, he does. I am choosing the style though Smiley smile

I haven't gotten anything yet, but I've seen a few I really like. Any suggestions on where else to look?

I like titanium rings myself but they cost more money. I think we might just opt for white gold instead and then upgrade later down the road for an anniversary present

I talked to different sales people at Jared's they say they wouldnt recommend Titanium rings. The rings dont scratch easily but they have had people come back with their rings shattered. From their explanation it seemed like the best pro for the titanium rings are being scratch resistant.

I worked in fine jewelry for about four years. Titanium is least expensive, more durable than gold, and less upkeep. Over the years, it tends to look a little more beat up, and there isn't much you can do about that... Titanium doesn't shatter, but Tungsten does. It can be more difficult (if not impossible) to size a titanium ring.

White gold needs to be rhodium-plated at least every 6 months to a year to keep it looking bright white. It's a soft metal, so it dings and scratches easily. Fortunately, regular check-ups and cleanings will keep it looking as shiny as the day you bought it. It's CONSIDERABLY more expensive than any 'alternative' metal.

DO NOT let a jeweler talk you into buy a platina 4 ring...it's a blended metal, and when our store started carrying it, it ALWAYS came back. Brides with green fingers, guys with swollen red allergic reactions, tarnished rings....etc etc...

If you go with Titanium or Tungsten, make sure you're jeweler offers a replacement program. They can not be sized. I got my hubby titanium but I can replace it for free if his finger gets bigger or smaller.
