Tips to prep before trying on dresses?

Hannah, on December 13, 2019 at 12:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Does anyone have tips on what to bring or how to prep yourself before you go dress shopping?

I have been told to do my hair and make up so it feels "more real"..but I am wondering if there is anything else I should do as well?

Wear something comfortable and that you can easily get in and out of. Strapless bra or no bra which ever you feel comfortable.

For sure dress comfy! If you already have shoes picked out, bring those. If not, wear slip ons (sandals, flats..etc)!

I haven't decided on the exact shoes that I want (probably keds) so I will just wear a pair that I already have that will be similar in style!

Wear shapeware if u think u might use it with ur dress. And bring water! If u have multiple dress appointments don’t schedule too many in a day and schedule the appointments apart so u have enough time for lunch in between.

Actually I would not wear make up as you could stain the dresses. The dress I tried on had a huge lipstick stain and the consultant appreciated that I did not wear make up. Have your hair to look nice for pics I would say. Dress comfortable to get an out of clothing. Some stores like David's Bridal could provide a bra.

I don't plan to do heavy full face make up, but I will be putting more effort than normal into it.

Definitely dress comfy! I wore sweatpants, moccasins, and a comfortable bra!

I did do my hair and make up but honestly the whole plan has changed for hair and make up since I cut my hair and want to do a softer make up look haha

I am not sure what I am going to do about shapewear...The dresses that I really like have low backs and I don't think they could use them? But I will see when I go.

LOL ok that makes sense. I agree to look good because you will want to look nice for pics in the dress.

I have no idea how I want to do my hair, because I will be growing it out for the weddingXD but I will be putting a little more effort into my makeup than a regular day...but nothing too extreme, I feel like seeing myself in a beautiful gown with a blank face will make me feel blah about it.

I wore comfy clothes to my try on. But honestly the whole thing about hair, I do get. However by the time I had tried "the one" on; I had gotten mad at my hair for being all over the place since I had it down to start with. I ended up throwing it into a messy bun because I was annoyed. Most of the girls that were shopping at the same shop that day basically had the same do as me.

A good pair of spanxs 😁

    And good support system.
I didn't bring shoes to try on with my dress because I have no idea what kind of shoes I'll be wearing.

My sister, having done everything before me, suggested i eat something light the morning of, since i scheduled an early fitting time, and to have water to stay hydrated. if you don't have an idea of the style you are looking to get it gets exhausting trying on all the pretty dresses.

It also helped to bring pictures, or if the place you're checking out has a website where you can "favorite" dresses, and show your consultant so they and you can narrow down the dress count.

Would also suggest adhesive bra if you're thinking backless or low cut styles.

Thankfully I know what style I like (hoping I like it on me!) I have a notebook with the designers and dress name or style number that I will plan on bringing with me. I will definitely need advice from a consultant as to what type of bra I will be able to wear.

I have tried adhesive bras before but being DDD its SO.DAMN.HARD to find something that is big enough and can keep the girls in their assigned seats Smiley xd

Wear spanks just like you would at your wedding it will also make any dress you try on look better! Also bring a robe or quick on off dress. You’ll be trying on some dresses then coming out to look through the racks getting dressed a bunch of times is no fun.
