Tips for the Reception

Akia, on March 21, 2021 at 9:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 11

Does anyone have any tips to make the reception more "elegant" with a buffet style dinner? I've been to weddings where the meal was plated so there was a cute menu card on the plate, but since ours will not be plated (except for the wedding party), I don't know if that is a good idea. Any help is appreciated.

You could still do that with a buffet! Put a little card that has all the buffet choices on the napkins at everyone’s seat

You can still do a menu card for a buffet! We are doing one, because we thought it would be helpful for guests to see what is being served in advance of their turn at the buffet.

You can serve stations rather than a regular buffet. Guests pick what they want and it is plated for them.

Also contrary to popular belief, menu cards make much more sense for a buffet because it gives guests a chance to see what is available before they fill their plated. With plated, they don't serve a purpose because guests get what they are given.

We had a buffet, and it still looked elegant.

A lot of it just has to do with table settings, decor, and the vibe of the venue.

But also, server stations, which can help with sanitation, as well.

I agree with others who suggested still doing menu cards. I am very awkward at buffets because I hate the pressure of people behind me as I'm trying to decide what I want to eat. I almost always end up either with practically nothing, or a bunch of food I don't want because I feel like I have to decide too fast. Having menus for the buffet gives your guests the opportunity to look and decide what they want before they get up!

Thank you. Being that I have no experience in it and just hoping it will be exactly like I've pictured it in my mind, I have been a little nervous. I will look into server stations.

Most of us didn't have experience, but your vendors should.

Find a vendor whose style you like
