I don't have any family in my state, and my BMs are also all scattered. It looks like I'll have to go dress shopping alone. My mom can't take the time to fly up right now. I absolutely hate shopping on a regular day, so I'm quite nervous about finding a dress without moral support. On top of which, my parents want to be involved in the decision. Does anyone have suggestions?

One thing I heard is to make sure the dress will photograph well. How do I accomplish this?

I also have Qs about Davids Bridal: (1) What have been your experiences? I hear mixed things on WW. (2) When are the best sales? It seems that they're always having some form of sale. (3) With DB, should I not worry about getting the best discount, just make sure I don't pay full price?

ETA: My dress budget is $700, so I'm not sure where else to try besides DB and consignment shops. Boutiques in Seattle can be pricey.

I bought my gown at DB and I loved the consultant. I didn't have my 2 daughters with me the first time so we scheduled an appointment so they could be there and have the experience with me and everything was perfect. I did go on a weekend day but it was an appointment.

My consultant at DB was AMAZING! I was not expecting to find a dress that day at all. I had an appointment for an early Saturday and she had one other bride and I felt she did a great job at attending to both of us. From the photos of dresses I brought her, she picked 3 dresses. 2 that I immediately approved of and one that I was like....I guess i'll try it on...guess which one ended up being my dream dress! #3, the one the consultant picked that I thought I wouldn't like. I cried immediately, bought it that day, and it happened to also be on sale. I loved my experience and gushed about my consultant to the manager!

I went dress shopping alone twice. The first time was at DB and the lady wasn't very helpful. She was not really around to help me with the dresses and kept working on other things so I wish I had brought someone with me. Didn't find anything I like anyway. But my next trip to a bridal salon was a completely different experience. If you decided to go to DB alone, make an appointment, find dresses you like beforehand, and try go on a weekday to avoid the chaos.

I went to David's bridal twice and had wonderful experiences both times. The only negative experience I had was with the alterations department. The first time I went with my mom, my grandma, FMIL and FSIL. I picked out a dress and bought it. A week later had instant dress regret, DB took my dress back and exchanged it for a different one. The second time i picked out a dress I was by myself and I love this dress to pieces. I think going with a big group makes the vision you have distorted. I preferred going alone.

Ok my advice on Davids is a little skewed because I had 2 horrible experiences then one great one when I went back and complained politely so here goes:

    1) Never go on a weekend and always make an appointment unless you enjoy getting blown off or not having much help at all

    2) Don't go for the first dress you like just because it works, sit on it because it gives you time to check online prices and compare, order a new one instead of the sample in store, etc.

    3) Give yourself time; we ordered our bridesmaids dresses there 6 months from our wedding and they came in 2 months before wrong sizes and colors so thankfully had time to change it for what it should have been all along.

I went dress shopping by myself at DB. I originally was going just to look at styles and then go later with my mom, but I ended up finding my dress on the first try. I would recommend going on an off peak time. I went at 2pm on a Tuesday, and I was almost the only one in the store, so my consultant was able to help me try on dresses without feeling rushed. I think most people who had bad experiences went during a Saturday when everyone else goes dress shopping, so there's not enough room or consultants for everybody to be comfortable.

I didn't have anyone with me when I went dress shopping and was so nervous about it. In the end I'm glad that I went alone. I knew I'd found the dress the moment I put it on & there was no one there to give me doubts about my decision. David's Bridal isn't the best as far as customer service but, that's where I got my dress. I just recommend having it altered elsewhere. Its also best to go there on like a Wednesday early afternoon instead the weekend. Make an appointment so they know you're coming and I recommend picking some dresses from their website that you'd like to try on & then also have your consultant make some suggestions to try too.

Since you are in the Seattle area, my advice is to go to Pearls and Lace in Burien. They may be a little out of your price range. My dress was $1,100. But it is a good starting point. They have a very welcoming atmosphere. They let you take three dresses at a time into the dressing room by yourself. They help you close and pin the dress if needed but for the most part they leave you be. Other stores I went to had a very Say Yes To The Dress feel where they were over the top with their opinions and very pushy about what I should do. Being by yourself you may find that to be too overwhelming. They also have two large racks of sale dresses. They don't do appointments so it's first come first serve. I went on a weekday and there were only two other brides there. I really loved my experience with them. This can at least help you narrow down what silhouette and material you like.

As far as David's bridal goes, I got my wedding dress & bridesmaids dresses there. So far they've been great ! My girls got their dresses sooner than expected. I had my first fitting a few weeks ago. I always deal with the same few women because they were so helpful since day 1. As far as sales? They seem to always have some sort of sale happening. For details I signed up for their emails and they send me emails constantly about sales ! You should be able to find a dress for your budget. I had a very high budget (thanks grandma!) for my dress and didn't even come close. I adore my dress, so decently priced. A lot of the dresses are on sale or marked down depending on the season.

    Good luck!
