Tips for Choosing dj

Natalie, on October 17, 2019 at 12:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Do you have any tips for choosing your DJ? It's one of the last vendors we are hung up on. We visited one DJ and got a quote, they also quoted us for some gobo lighting and a photobooth. We liked them overall, but aren't totally sold or in love. We got another quote that was comparable, but we haven't met with another DJ yet.

Any advice to help choose a DJ? Our reception is going to have tons of dancing so it is important to us, we're just feeling a little unmotivated in choosing this vendor. How did you know you wanted the DJ that you chose?

I reached out to about 4 DJs and all, but one was recommended to us by our venue. One sent us a DVD of his work. They all were really nice, but I just got a feeling about the one and that's the one we went with. I guess it paid off to go with my gut because he was amazing and had everyone up and dancing. Several people told us it was the best wedding they went. If you are having doubts, I would say that's not the right DJ for you.

I don't party much anymore but I contacted DJs whom I liked when I did go out to parties.

I talked to two DJs that had been recommended by a venue (not a venue we ultimately went with, but it was still useful to have that recommendation). I got a really good feeling from the one we ultimately hired. They are basically the "preferred" DJ for our venue and work with them all the time, to the point that they offer a discount for DJ'ing at receptions held there. It was $100 more than the other DJ I was considering (which would have been fine as well), but I went with my gut feeling.

DH and I loved the DJ at some friends' wedding so much, we made a mental note to hire her when we got married. We just 'stole' her, and didn't look at anyone else.

Have you been to any weddings in the past few years where you really liked the DJ? I always recommend starting with parties/events you attended where you enjoyed the music/mc-ing.

I chose a DJ that I went to college with and is now employed with an entertainment company. I’m in love with their services because they provide consultations, have a whole online set-up that includes a list of every important moment and the song you wish to have for that moment. It made me think of things that I didn’t even notice. They were professional and are trained to be the host so, they’re not just talking on the mic or playing music but really engaging the guest.
