Hi there!

Is it customary to tip makeup and hair artists?

My MUA is traveling from 2 hours away and she's charging $150 for the travel fee (I travel there for work pretty regularly and get comped reasonably, per mile, but it's never that high). I feel like her prices are also on the higher end so I wasn't sure if this is factoring in everything but I also felt kind of awkward to ask her.

The same question goes for hair. The salon is coming to the venue to do the hair and I've already paid the travel fee for them too.

Also, understanding the travel fee is not the same as gratuity, but everything is adding up and I wasn't sure.

A tip for good service is appreciated, just like any other salon visit, but not required.

Tip for Hair and Makeup is about 10-15%. Don't forget a thank you note after the wedding and a nice review/reference are also extremely helpful and appreciated by vendors.

Tipping is an important way to show your appreciation for your artists' hard work on your wedding day. According to this WeddingWire article (Exactly How Much To Tip Wedding Vendors: A Complete List), they should receive 15 to 20 percent of their fee.
If gratuity is included in the makeup artists total price, it should state it in the contract. Did you check this?
