Tipping Day Of?

Megan, on November 3, 2019 at 11:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hi guys! I am getting married in a week and seeking tipping advice for the following:

Caricaturist- Just him, owns his own business. Do I tip or not? All money he makes is going straight to him. He is traveling from Jersey to NY and does not charge a travel fee.

Videographer AND Photographer (two different guys, two different assistants)- Both own their own business, BUT, bringing an assistant. Do I just tip assistant? Or split the tip in half? No travel fee.

MUA Assistant- I am paying for my girls' makeup and it comes to $980. Ideally I would tip the MUA 20% but since she is bringing an assistant should I split the tip exactly in half? It's her business but she is bringing someone to help. Also, do I tip on services alone or on total with travel fee?

Thanks all!

I would tip everyone. We didn’t have a Caricaturist, but had a photo booth with an attendant. We tipped him.

Our photographer owns her own business and our 2nd shooter was her husband. We tipped her because they were with us all day, worked their butts off, & did an amazing job. Same with our videographers. They are a husband & wife team that own their own business. But were with us all day and did an amazing job.

Our HMUA owns her own business. I had to pay a pretty hefty travel fee, but that type of business relies on gratuities. She did an awesome job so I didn’t mind adding some extra cash in with the total.

Technically, you don't have to tip a owner of a business. That being said, if they do a really great job or go above and beyond, I would still tip.

Agreed with Alex about the owning a business. I would tip the Caricaturist just because I tipped the photobooth owner who was also the attendant the day off. Photographer/Videographer it's up to you as they own their business and charge their own fixed prices. Are the package pricepoints different when they bring an assistant versus not? You could just tip the assistants or an overall to be split. My photographer didn't include an assistant but rather a second shooter. Our package price was obviously larger due to that. We didn't tip photographer as she owns her business and the second shooter cost was included in our package. Our DJ though, is the owner, but brought assistants. We tipped them to be split. If that means the owner pays his employees and not himself, or includes himself so be it. Hair and makeup is always tipped 15-20% of the total. So be sure to say it's for everyone who did makeup.
