Timing for bridal shower and bachelorette party?

soon to be..., on September 27, 2009 at 8:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Just wondering how long before the wedding the bridal shower and bachelorette party are supposed to be? Most of my bridesmaids are out of town, and I was wondering if maybe combining a bridal shower and bachelorette party weekend would make sense? How are things traditionally done? are there any "rules?"--- thanks!

Every one of my bridesmaids live out of state or 2 hours from me so that's what I'm doing- combining my shower with my bachelorette party (I still can't get a couple of them here but I've learned to just go with the flow about this). Mine will be 6 weeks before the wedding. Not sure what the rules are but you can do whatever you want!

Totally makes sense. i'm not having a bachelorette but i had a partial evening shower. good enough for me. maybe just have a day/evening events on one day near your wedding date? if too close, then maybe a month before? i guess this depends on everyone's schedules and how far away they live from you?....i don't like rules. but traditionally i guess, the shower is about a month before and the bachelorette is the week before? i know tons of ppl who don't have bachelorette parties anymore because it kinda depends on stage of life: how young, how free or responsibilities/kids ppl are, and if they want to make a raunchy or clubby night of it...depends on you but also really on your bms and what they want to do for you.

I'm doing my bachelorette the night before the rehersal. I don't want it weeks in advance and I want my mind off of the wedding close to the date, haha!

I think it's just fine to combine both the shower and bachelorette party. I am not sure if there are any rules on when you should have either one though. I know my bachelorette party in the first weekend in March and my wedding is in May. We chose March because April is too busy of a month with 4 of my girls and my FH having birthdays plus Easter. My shower is sometime after January (its a surprise) because my sister told me that was the deadline for being registered.

We just did a destination wedding and the girls had a bachelorette/ shower where we started with a suite and held the shower there and then had a car pick them up to take them to dinner and out from there. It makes it a big fun night for everyone, and a lot less schedule coordination for a busy group!

Thanks for people's help! I am now thinking that a mid/late april bridal shower and bachelorette will work best for the June wedding!---- does that make sense?

I'm having mine this weekend which is two weeks before the wedding. I combined my bridal shower and bachlorette party into the same day. My MOH lives out of state so i figured i would be better to get it all done in one day.

We're still deciding when to do mine. My wedding is Jan 17th and the week before is my son's b-day. The week before that is New years weekend and the week before that is Christmas. So since those times are so busy we are thinking of early Dec for the shower.

One of my friends who lives in another state is coming to town at the end of Oct and wants to have a 'bachelorette party' for me at that time. Even tho I think that's way too early it's the only time she'll be in town before the wedding so we're getting together to do something.

I had my first shower 6 weeks before the wedding, and that was in town. I am from Iowa and most of my friends still live there, so we did a shower and bachelorette on the same day 3 weeks before the wedding. I wouldn't do more than 6-8 weeks before the wedding. But that's just my opinion. I don't think there are any "rules", so just do what works best for you and your party.

I think that about 7-8 weeks before the wedding is what's going to work out, so hopefully that's not breaking any "rules" and isn't too early! 3 out of the 5 of my bridesmaids have to get on a plane to get to the festivities, so I am hoping that this will space out the financial burden of travel enough so they can all come! thanks everyone for your ideas, they are wonderful!

My shower will be this coming Saturday, and we are doing a girls weekend/bachlorette party in November. Trying to get most stuff done before December since its a crazy enough month without wedding related stuff.

Makes total sense --- I think that as long as the bachelorette party and shower are BEFORE the wedding, no "rules" are being broken! So many things to take into consideration ;o)

My shower was a little less than a month before the wedding. And we did the bachelorette one weekend before. But do what you want when you want, there are no rules! :o)
