Timeline/menu help please!!!

So our venue provides the catering for the wedding. They gave us an option of heavy hors d’oeuvres and 7 hours or a seated meal with a cocktail hour for a total of 8 hours..

our wedding starts at 3:30 due to sunset at 5:20pm. This means we will be taking photos from 4-5 ish. The venue serves heavy hor d’oeuvres immediately after the wedding (whole we are taking pictures). So with this option we would have to be out by 7:30pm which seems to early for me.

with a seated meal we get a cocktail hour with dinner is served when we arrive at 5, and an out time of 8:30pm.

the heavy hors d’oeuvres are super heavy and there are so many options. I definitely prefer this menu over the seated meal (1 meat, two sides, salad, and bread) but they won’t like us have a cocktail hour with that option Smiley sad

is 7:30pm too early to end things? Should I just switch to a seated meal?

I’m super confused about how a 7 hour wedding with a 3:30 start time would end at 7:30. But anyway...if you’re not serving a full meal you should end early so that your guests can go get their own dinner. I think 7:30 is too late to expect people to wait to eat and would probably opt for 5:30 or 6 instead.

I am confused like Caytlyn said because 3:30-7:30 is only 4 hours not 7 hours.

The menu choices are heavy enough to be dinner, chicken mushroom pasta, shrimp and grits, Mac and cheese, ham, etc..

The venue requires start time to be 3 hours before the wedding, so 12:30pm - 7:30pm for a 3:30 wedding. My apologies

That is very odd. Is there a particular reason for this?

Can you just pay for extra time and add a cocktail hour on? I cannot see a venue saying no to this offer. I also think it is odd that they are counting 3 hours before your wedding even starts as part of your 7 hour rental time. If your contract states you get the space for 7 hours, then you should have the space from 3:30 - 10:30. Have you already put a deposit on this venue? If not, you may want to reconsider. Sounds a bit strange...

I think since they include somewhat of a coordinator, they are stuck in some of their ways. We tried to add an extra hour on and they said it is absolutely not possible unless we serve a seated meal. She said it “just doesn’t work”. The contract states that we have the venue for 7 hours and our time starts 3 hours before the ceremony start time. I guess this is because of the time it takes to set up and get ready. This is an all inclusive venue so they do almost everything for us. We just show up. I (unfortunately) already made a deposit. I’ve actually paid in full. My wedding is next weekend.

I met with them today and decided to just switch to a seated meal which isn’t what I wanted but at least I Get the extra hour.
