Timeline Help!

Madeline, on July 22, 2019 at 5:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hey guys! I’m getting married in September and I’m having a hard time with the timeline. We have no wedding planner or coordinator, which makes it a little difficult. We have open bar for 4 hours. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 4pm (or 4:30pm). We have to leave the venue by 11pm. The amount of time we have there doesn’t quite correlate with the open bar and I’m trying to avoid having a cash bar the last hour or so. ANY help would be appreciated!!

I actually think you won't need to have the open bar open for the entire time if you get me. You can just say LAST CALLS and then people can load up aha

This is kind of how we set our timeline up. Our ceremony actually started 15 minutes later than it was planned. How long will your ceremony be? That could affect the time of when your bar will open/close. For us, when it came to about 10:30, we had our DJ call for last calls.

I second this. You really don't want an open bar right up to the very end of your wedding. If cocktail hour starts a 5-ish and last call is at 9pm and your grand exit/last dance is at 10pm. That is pretty normal. I figure you are going to leave some time to break down your venue before you have to leave at 11pm.

I agree with PPs here. But another option is to have a pause in the open bar, a time when it is technically "closed" for an hour or so. Like during dinner. People will most likely get a drink before sitting down to dinner, so you could close the bar during that time, and open it back up after an hour.

A lot of people close the bar down for an hour over dinner time. We've always gotten our drinks during cocktail hour then sat down for the intros and the bar would be closed then.
