Timeline Help!

Tori, on November 24, 2020 at 5:29 PM Posted in Planning 2 18

Hey all!

So I know my wedding is still a ways away, but I'm wanting to get a tentative timeline put together as some of my vendors have already started asking. We're planning on having the ceremony start at 4:30 PM and cocktail hour and reception (which is all at the same place) will be at 5:00 PM. Here's what I have:

7:20 AM -- Hair and Makeup begins at hotel (we have 7 girls including me and my mom)

12:00 PM -- Hair and Makeup completed, leave for venue (20 minute drive)

12:20-12:30 PM -- Arrive at venue

12:30-1:30 PM -- Hang out, read letter from groom, bridesmaids get dressed

1:30 PM -- Get in dress

1:45 PM -- Bridesmaids first look

2:00 PM -- First look

2:15 PM - 3:15 PM -- Couple photos, Bridal party pictures

3:20 PM-4:00 PM -- Family photos

4:30 PM-5:00 PM -- Ceremony

5:00 PM -- Cocktail hour immediately following ceremony

5:00-5:30 PM -- Any last minute family photos (hoping to have most done before) and then just pictures with FH and I

5:45 PM -- Start getting guests to their seats

5:55 PM -- Introductions (just FH and I)

6:00 PM -- Immediately go into first dance

6:05 PM -- Salads served, MOB speech (all other speeches will be done at rehearsal dinner)

6:10-6:15 PM -- Buffet opens

7:00 PM -- Father/Daughter Dance

7:05 PM -- Mother/Son Dance

7:10 PM -- Open dance!

10:30 PM -- Reception ends

What do you guys think? I want our day to be a little more relaxed instead of go, go, go. Any places where I should add more time or us less time?

The only thing I would suggest, is make sure that is plenty of time for your hair and makeup. For my wedding we started getting ready at 10am, and there were only four of us getting hair/makeup done and we didn’t finish until 2:30. So as long as that’s enough time, everything else looks great! Make sure you have food of course there to snack on while getting ready!

I think the hair and make up time is a little early but I would ask your HMUA as they should be experts with timing. Just for me it was two hours. I do not know you want that much time hanging at the venue. Can the HMUA come to the venue and do it there? For my timeline I worked with my photographers and the hair and make up artists. Esp for the timeline photo parts I would ask the photographers.

Have hair/makeup done at the same place as getting dressed. Your photographer and hairdresser/makeup people should already have a schedule to work with based on the time your ceremony starts. Vendors should not be asking you for a timeline since that is their job.
I would also have the open dancing start earlier if possible during dinner. Have the parent dances during the dinner as well.

One thing I see missing is the cutting of the cake. Not sure if you wanted to put that in before the open dance floor (if you’re doing a cake)? I think your hair and makeup is fine, we are getting married at 4:00 and I wanted to be done by 2:30 and my MUA is starting at 8:30 and my hair is starting at 9:30, but double check with them. They should be able to tell you how long they’ll need!

Hmm the only thing I can see that's sort of missing is, when will you guys eat breakfast or lunch? Even if it's just snacks, I would have it noted when you will order/receive the food so people aren't starving before dinner. Other than that it looks pretty good!

Remember to keep hydrated! Assign your MOH or another bridesmaid to remind you drink water!

How many HMUA are coming to work on your bridal party? I agree with PP's regarding arrival time at venue and getting dressed. I would get dressed in the same place I had HMU done and travel to venue ready to go, you can read letters and do bridal party first look photos at hotel. We have 4 of us getting HMU done and 2 stylists coming to our hotel on wedding day. Our ceremony is at 4pm and we are getting started at 9am so depending on how many HMUA are coming you might not need to start so early.

Our photographer, along with our planner, came up with our day of timeline. Have you asked your photographer about it?

So we're going to have 3 girls doing hair and makeup and the tentative timeline was them getting started at that time. Hopefully that's enough time!

The problem with getting hair and makeup done at the venue is that the bridal suite is pretty small for 7 people plus 3 hair and makeup artists. It would be tight. So instead, I think having it done at the suite at our hotel will give us lots of room.

The cake is something we're unsure on. We both really don't care for cake, so we may just have cupcakes and a small cutting cake. If we do cut it, I don't want to make a huge deal over it. Maybe throw that in after dinner before dances?

Great tip! We're planning on having breakfast at the hotel and then probably sub sandwiches for lunch at the venue.

Not yet! And this will definitely probably change once we talk to her and our videographer.
