Time on Invitations... LATINO time : )

Marlina A., on March 14, 2013 at 10:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 18

SO I have been wondering about what time I should put on the invites for the ceremony. Now everyone knows the saying "run on spanish time" but I'm a bit worried as to what I should put on the invitations. With the venue we had agreed that the starting time is 4p ET. So will it be ok to put on the invitations 3p or 330p ET just to be sure my guests are there on time? Would the venue people think "WTF" if guests arrive too early?

The venue squally states arrival time fr guests to start coming. Especially if they at providing valet or certain parking accommodations so you want to check with them or the contract for that info. As for the Latino time, I hear ya. I am actually wanting to do the same thing. I have for now on the wedding website the actual start and in a FAQ section telling them to show up early because of parking or it might be hard to get there.

Our ceremony time was 10:30. I was ready to go, our families were there EARLY (I KNOW!!) and we were a little late (5-10 minutes) due to my photographer taking too many pictures. He's Cuban, the families are Puerto Rican, so honestly? Put the start time and start letting people know that you'll be starting ON TIME and that if they're late, they can stand in the back. Smiley smile

This thread made me smile Smiley smile My sister in law is Mexican and she is notorious for being late so if we are doing something together I always tell her to be there a half hour before she to needs to be and she still manages to be 15 minutes late.

As for your situation I would ask your venue how early you can have people arrive and go from there.

Trust me, Marlina, I was surprised as eff to see... well, now that I think about it, my family was all already at the venue (my cousin was a bridesmaid, so she, my aunt and grandmother stayed together, my grandfather and uncle from PR stayed with my parents, other family had RSVP'd no.)

So I was surprised as eff to see all of H's family starting to park around 9:30ish... they were EARLY. I think they caravaned from my in laws house, so they all ended up there super early. Hmm.

For me, I am usually every where at least 15 min early, if I arrived at a wedding and the start time was really an hour after the invite said I probably wouldn't be super happy about that!!! If his family is always on time, I would just let your family know they need to be there 30 minutes before the start time

LOL I know all about Latino time. My family is from Puerto Rico and two of them are in the bridal party. I had a LONG talk about time management and made sure they understood that I would be a BRIDEZILLA if they didn't follow the schedule I set for them. They have been warned. Smiley smile

Hahaha, I told my latinos to be there at 4:15pm (its 5pm wedding). FH's family is American so he said if I tell them that, they'd get there at 3:30pm.... must be nice! lol

Omg.. My whole family are Mexican and my fh family are Guatemalan.. I have to figure out and tell then what time to leave.. It will take about a good 45 mins to get to my venue and knowing some they might leave half hr before it starts thinking they will get there on time and knowing some, running late is just accustomed to them lol

@Val, my aunt is NEVERR EVERRRRRRRRRRR on time. she got to my brother's wedding 10min before the ceremony WAS OVER... and it was an hour long catholic ceremony. My ceremony is going to be like 15-20min.... so i'm expecting her to miss the whole thing and arrive during cocktail hour lol.

funny story actually... there was a FIRE in her apt building in the middle of the night, she woke up changed into "better pajamas" and did her hair and makeup before "running" outside to safety... by the time she got outside, the fire was already taken care of and everyone was already going back to their apartments. DOMINICANS! LOL
