Time of the Month Wedding Dilemma!

Futuremrsn, on August 12, 2020 at 7:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 22
Hi Ladies!
My wedding is on 10/4 and according to my ovulation calendar, I will have my period on my wedding day (it will be like the 2nd or 3rd day). I’m going to accept this for now and not become upset because what the heck can I do anyway right? I am reaching out to this lovely community to inquire about period panties, and their effectiveness. Has anyone used them? Do they really not leak? I’m thinking of purchasing a pair for my wedding day to avoid wearing a pad or tampon. Does anyone have another option? Did you also have that time of the month during your wedding, and if so, how did you deal with it?

It's been a while since I tried one, but I did not find them effective. I think tampons are the way to go, but I'm also one that could only ever use OB versus any other.

Have you ever used a diva cup? You can wear then for up to 12 hours with no leaks (depending on your flow of course) and reusable, AKA never buy pads/tampons again! I switched when I was 16 and I LOVE it. I think if you had something like that, on top on the period panties, you’d be set!

MODIBODI!!! I cannot say enough good things about this panty line!! These panties have been a lifesaver for me! They are a little pricey, but 100% worth it. I would suggest ordering a pair of the heavy flow panties and seeing how they work for you prior to the wedding. I’ve heard of brides say they used a tampon or a pad in conjunction with them too, just to make sure there are zero leaks.

Oh, and do not waste your time on the Thinx brand. After realizing I could never go without period panties ever again, I decided to order 5 more pairs of them. But, I made the mistake of thinking they would all be the same regardless of brand. Definitely regretted that decision! I threw away all the Thinx (Uncomfortable, horrible material, did not provide nearly the amount of absorption or leak protection) and purchased 5 more pairs of the Modibodi

Also if you really don’t wanna deal with it, my friend got a pack of birth control for her wedding week so she could skip her period. ask your doc about it!

Have you ever tried the Flex Cup or Disc? They take some getting used to but they work pretty well! I have a very heavy flow so I have to empty it more often than it says, and I've had some troubleshooting with the disc. Good luck, im really hoping my period doesn't come on my wedding!! I won't be able to stand ughhh

You can always get on birth control pills and “regulate” when your period will come. I did it when my fiancé and I went away for his birthday cruise and then I got back off of it (because I hate birth control). But I for sure didn’t want it on vacation for his birthday!

I’m on birth control and am supposed to start the week of my wedding (per my period calendar) so I plan to just start my next pack of birth control pills so I can ‘skip’ that period!

If you are on birth control I would totally skip the pills that make you get your period. it will be fine... (don't take any of the pills at the end of the pack at all...

I actually LOVE the THINX boyshorts period underwear ..they are not meant for heavy bleeders though... i learned that quickly... while the underwear did not leak at all, i definitely feel wet against my body down there when it's time to change to another pair if it's a heavier day for me...on my lighter days i can go longer with them still feeling dry..

Are you on the pill? If so, you could always skip your placebo pills and go right into your next pack. This will cause you to skip your period completely, that way, you won't have to worry with your period on you wedding day!

The pills at the end of the pack do not “make you get your period”. They are simply placebo pills so that you continue to stay on your schedule of taking your pill daily at the same time. If you want to try to skip your period at the end of a pack you need to skip the placebo pills and start a new pack immediately.

Just be aware that “Skipping” a period by doing back to back pills doesn’t work for everyone. You might want to try it ahead of time. Plus birth control pills can have significant side affects and risks if you haven’t taken them before. You don’t want to be dealing with potential headaches, nausea, weight gain or worse a blood clot just from trying to skip a period.

Many people on the Merina IUD stop getting periods altogether after several months or they are very light and short periods. Something to consider though I heard the insertion is pretty unpleasant if you haven’t delivered a baby before.
I didn’t have good luck with cups/ discs they just wouldn’t stay in place.
Looks like your wedding is pretty close! If I were you I might just accept having to deal with it rather than put stress on myself trying to skip it.

Have you tried the Depo shot? It's another form of birth control. Not pills required, and you get it every three months. This totally stops my period, and I have been thinking about getting back on this for my wedding just in case. I would talk to your doctor!

    Hi Brittany!

So sorry to hear that. That is one of my fears, to get my period on my wedding day.

That's why I researched alternatives to pads, tampons or cups. Try a menstrual disk. I ow only wear these. I subscribe to flex and have never looked back. If you usually get a lighter period (Even if you don't) you can put one on and keep it on for about 12 hours without having to change them. There are a couple of other perks that come with it but I will let you find those out on your own. Smiley winking

    Hope this helps!

I’ve heard they are pretty good but wouldnt wear them for the first time on my wedding day. I’d double or triple up on all kinds of protection just so you can have peace of mind about not getting a stain

I never thought to ask this question so I'm glad you did! I'm currently on the depo (first shot in 5 years) and I've had my period now for a week. I've been on 3 different BCs in the last year. I have 2 weeks left of my BC pills I took prior to starting the depo, but I'm unsure if I want to take them because I had VERY inconsistent periods on the pill. I'm "scheduled" to start my period a few days after the wedding, but my cycle has been off for months!

Keep in mind the reason I'm not getting another depo shot (due to get another one 2 weeks before the wedding) is because it can take no less than 3 months to leave your body from the date of the injection. It can then take 6 months on AVERAGE (not saying everyone will take 6 months) to get pregnant from your last injection. If you aren't worried about starting a family right away then depo could be an option.
Also talk to a GYN. I have an appointment scheduled before the wedding so I'm armed with all the information I need for us to start trying for babies!
Also, thanks for the period panty information. Going to try them out!

Tampons May be my only option (even though I never use them) but I’m just concerned with the pain! I get horrible cramps and most painkillers don’t work ugh

I’ve never heard of this brand but I will be looking it up, thank you!! I did not want to waste money on the panties if they wouldn’t be effective, and I don’t need leaks on my wedding dress!

I’m not on the pill, but I have been before and did not care for how it made me feel. I eventually stopped and haven’t been on the pill in years. I wouldn’t want to start it up now that we are getting married and want to start a family in the near future. Ugh this is so frustrating! But I think what I’m most afraid of honestly is the pain I endure, I get nasty cramps :/
