Tim McGraw song for first dance?

mrs.flowers, on March 25, 2010 at 9:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Me and my FH have been talking alot about songs, what songs we want for what and he brought up a suggestion. For our first dance together he wants to dance to Please don't take the girl by Tim McGraw because that is the first song we ever danced to and it's our song but is that appropriate or good for a first dance? I just have mixed feelings about it so I need some major help ladies, the song is special and I love it but is it first dance material?

I love that song. In my opinion (and who am I really..lol), I wouldn't really consider that a first dance song, BUT you can always have it announced by your DJ or whomever, that song was your first dance song together. That would help show the meaning behind it. Smiley smile

I too have a Tim Mcgraw song, It's My Best friend... that is the song that was playing when we first kissed.

If it's the first song you danced to then it is a great song for the first dance at the wedding! I think that song is so great!

I feel what is more important about the music for a first dance between you and your FH is that it mean something for you two. If it's "your song," the first song you danced to, the song that was playing when he proposed - whatever. A wedding isn't a show you put on for other people, it's supposed to be a meaningful declaration of your commitment to each other, expressed in a way that is special to you two.

Well, that's how I feel, anyway.

Whether or not it is typical shouldn't matter at all, as long as it is special to you! and besides, if it really isn't "typical" all the better reason to do it because then you won't be talking about it in 10 years with someone else and have them go, oh wow, that was our first dance at our wedding too...

It's perfect because it has a special meaning. Maybe have the DJ explain that it's the first song you danced to. It doesn't really matter if it's a "good" song to everyone else. It's YOUR first dance so just the two of you need to think it's good! Smiley smile

I'm all for the "if it means something to you"... then go for it! You want it to be a special song and something that has meaning for the 2 of you. Who cares if its a "traditional" first dance song... what is traditional now a days anyhow???
