Three Wedding Dress Appointments in One Day... am i crazy?!

NVV2B, on March 15, 2018 at 2:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I go wedding dress shopping in 4 weeks and I am so excited!! I live in a city that is 4 hours away from my hometown, where my mom and sister still live. I wanted to go dress shopping with only them, because I only care about their opinions and I didn't want a big entourage. Also - I did not want to go dress shopping on a Saturday because the stores are packed and I want the experience to be a little more relaxed. We are all taking off work on a Friday, and I am driving down to my parents house the night before. All the appointments are 1.5 hours long and are scheduled at 10am, 1:30pm and 4pm.

Is this too much for one day? Has anyone else done 3 appointments in one day? What if I find my dress at the first appointment? Do I still go to the other 2?

I think 3 is fine. I'm not sure you gave yourself enough time for lunch, though. Just an FYI, it is tiring to try on so many dresses and you will need plenty of food and water. All that fabric might make you really thirsty too.

I think you should still go to the other 2 places just to be sure. You don't want to end up with dress regret.

It does seem like a lot but if you’re up for it then go for it! Is there a cancellation penalty at any of the shops? I know I did two appointments in one day and for the second shop I had to give my credit card number to hold my appointment spot and they would charge me $150 if I didn’t cancel with 24 hours notice. So I went into it knowing that if I found my perfect dress at the first place I would be out $150.

I am that weird person that always carries water and snacks with me wherever I go - never know when you'll get hungry or thirsty! lol - but I will be sure to pack extra snacks.

I scheduled it so we have 2 hours to make the 20 minute drive to the next shop and we will eat around there. So we will have well over an hour for lunch - is that not enough time to you?

I do not think any of the shops I am going to do this. I was able to book all 3 appointments without any CC information. I think if I find my dream dress at shop 1, I will still go to 2 & 3 to see if they can "beat" it. I don't think I would buy my dress the day of though - I am the kind of person that usually likes to sleep on big decisions like that.

3 is fine, but limit yourself to only a few dresses at each place. You don't realize how easily you can get overwhelmed by the different cuts, shapes, materials and the emotion of it all. Pace yourself, be honest about how you feel in each one, and move on. Then, go home and think before you make any decisions.

I did 3 in a day. I also had 6 people with me. It was absolutely exhausting, but doable. I would just say DON'T put any money down on a dress that day, no matter how certain you think you are that you've found the right dress, because you'll be too tired to think straight.

I think that 3 is fine, you will probably be tired at the end of the day. It is definitely doable though.

I think it should be fine! Just take a moment to yourself that day if you feel the need to. Sounds like a lot of fun!
I hope you find the one!

I did it I was in the same position as you I live out of town and went with my mom and sister. I was fine but your entourage might not be. Just include a lunch break after the 1:30 appointment with alcohol and it should be fine.

It's hard to say because some shops may have a big selection where you try on 20 dresses and are there longer than 1.5 hours, while other shops may not have a great selection. I think so long as you bring snacks and water for everyone you should be fine.

I did 4 and it was fine. I planned on spending about an hour and a half at each place, made time for lunch, and plenty of time to get to each location. After the first shop, I had it narrowed down to the style that I wanted, so the other places weren't too bad. I didn't end up purchasing any of the dresses I tried on that day, but it really helped me decided on some of the details I was looking for.

3 should be fine. I had 3 in one day, well spaced, but a little shorter of appointments (actually my first appointment as supposedly 1.5 hrs, but they had us out of there in probably an hour anyway), and we actually ended up popping into another sample store that didn’t take appointments bc we were killing time and feeling energized.
i would caution against alcohol at lunch— we planned a nice long brunch and were sitting for a while and I got SO sleepy after, but eventually perked up .

Dont commit to a dress at your first appointment. If you think you find one you love, TAKE PICS (seriously, sneak them if you’re not allowed— I can’t tell you what a difference seeing myself in photographs made toward my ultimate decision) and look at them once you’ve left. I did a full turn around on opinion after leaving and seeing pics of my favorite dress at the time. The first dress you love might just have the right shape or elements but then you can/should try more in that style, and then you’ll discover one you KNOW is the perfect fit!

Thank you ladies for all the great tips!! I am really excited for this day to come. I will definitely take pictures so I can see how I look in the dress from different angles and distances - and if the shop doesn't let me - well then they just lost a potential customer!

I also didn't go on weekends for that exact reason! Made the whole process more relaxed. I think I did 2 appointments in one day but had them spread out like you are doing so you can take a break and not get overwhelmed and maybe grab some lunch in between! Good luck finding THE ONE! I've done 3 in a day. That was a max i was exhausted afterwards. You should still go to the others and see whats out there. Your very early and i think it would be worth it to not have that worry that there is something else out there. You may be able to try it on again at the next store to compare. Also you can get another price quote if u see it at another store and can compare if you choose it in the end.

I think it is crazy. Sorry, I did two places one day and was exhausted, and confused, and dresses started to look the same. It was overwhelming and my one regret. I can't imagine adding a third place. Also, even when you are scheduled for 1 hour most places are not going to kick you on on the hour, especially if you go on a not so busy day. So you should plan for at least 2 hours at each place. Like others mentioned, lunch will be key to keep the energy going.

I think dress shopping is one of the most important steps while planning your wedding. Once I changed my focus to just go to one store in a given day and take my time, I was able to find the one. Take your time. I went to 8 shops, most alone. Once I narrowed it down, I brought my mom, bridesmaids, etc. and left the store with my dress in hand.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, and Happy shopping whatever you decide!

I think that's perfectly fine. I had that before and it was perfect. Even if u find a dress at the first place keep your appointments for the other ones. You never know what ur going to find. Also it's best so you have all the dresses fresh in your mind, if you need to go back and compare it's easier to do that the same day
