Thoughts on wearing wedding dress for elopment and reception at a later date

Kati, on April 13, 2020 at 2:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
My FH and I unfortunately had to postpone our May wedding due to COVID-19 but would still like to get married on the original date as its a special day to us. So my question is, would it be tacky to wear my wedding dress to get eloped in and then again a few months later when we have our reception?

Not at all. People recognize that you didn't exclude them from the original ceremony of your own volition. And they are likely to be pleased to be included to the extent you can, including wearing your original dress for whatever celebration you have later.

Definitely not. It’s an unfortunate circumstance that you are finding yourself in so do whatever works for you. Good luck.

Definitely not! I however ran into the problem of David's bridal still having my dress and alterations are not done 😂 so we are eloping on may 9th but moved our wedding to august so I will wear it then. But if you want a less expensive back up dress, I got one on lulus for 60 bucks! It's actually great quality and looks really good.

Have you reached out to them? My original date was for us to leave May 9th for a semi dw, but we postponed our date and I didn't tell them. I contacted corporate that I need my alterations done asap, (they really messed my dress up), and the local store manager called and told me they will bring me in for a private fitting if they have to and will call in a week or 2 to let me know if that's what they decide. I know I dont need my dress this very second, however their work needs fixed and I don't want it shoved on the back burner. They might be able to do the same for you!

And OP, not tacky at all! My fiances sister had a DW with a huge reception 2 months later, and family and friends who couldn't attend the wedding were really upset she refused to wear her wedding gown again. She said "they should of been there". I know your guests would love to see you in your gown and it'll help make them feel as if they were included on your big day!

I actually think this is a good idea aha there's only so many times you wear a wedding dress -- usually just once, so if given the opportunity to wear it more than once, why not?

I think it's a great idea. Look at how many brides love their dresses but only get to wear them that one time on their wedding. Plus I'm sure all your guests will be so excited to see what you look like in your dress. I'm wearing mine when we go to the courthouse, and am considering wearing it again for our party later in the year too

Unfortunately I am in ct. So they are just completely closed. No one allowed in the stores at all. They had offered me my dress back in March, but if the alterations were not right I wouldnt be able to have it fixed since I left the store with it. I'm just hopeful I'll get my dress for august 😂

I'm thinking of this too, but worried about getting my dress dirty if I wear it before the big wedding/reception. Are you going to have it cleaned in between or just try to keep it pristine? I've considered getting a different dress (albeit a less expensive/more simple one) to have different dresses for each event so my fiance/hubby gets a surprise each time, but I also really want my mom and friends to get to see the beautiful wedding dress I purchased.
