This or that? (budget vs Experience)

Cece, on October 7, 2021 at 11:29 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13
I love how different everyone's wedding visions and priorities are here on Wedding Wire, so I thought it'd be fun to create a series of polls to see what everyone values the most for their special days!

So, first question....

Which is more important to you… staying within your budget, or splurging to ensure you and your guests have the experience of your dreams?

Click the link below to cast your vote on the next poll:

For our wedding, it was staying within budget - we had no choice, we were young and on a very strict one.

For our vow renewal, experience for sure.

Both. I think it's an industry lie that you need to choose one over the other.

    This is hard!!!

because on one hand... there are things that you need to compromise on and on the other, there are things that you really want to have that are going to cost a lot of money.

my initial budget was like half of what i actually spent because i decided i really wanted to change catering and food. so i hiked my budget that much more just so i can have the amazing food i wanted haha.

Budget. And I agree with the previous poster you can have your great experience within your budget. It does require alot of work researching options, modifying expectations, and negotiating with your partner.

Budget. We are on a very tight income, and while we doubled our originally budget (our final number was around $7500), I busted my butt to either DIY as much as I could, or find the most affordable alternatives.

I Couldn't agree more with KK.

We are splurging on food, desserts ,bar (even though it's not a premium package). On the other hand, we decided to save on decor, other 'nice-to-have but not must-have' stuff in general (minimal and mostly DIYed decor items, totally flowerless (not even a bride's bouquet, 0 boutonnières/ corsages), we are going with a naked cake, we're skipping champagne , place/escord cards, no photos we don't care about (getting ready & guests on the dancefloor) so our shooter will come later & will leave sooner... we're doing digital STD,invites,RSVP cards, we are DIYing/printing some funny photobooth props but our guests (and ourselves too 😀😋) will use them with 'selfie station' in lieu of an actual booth. Last but not least: you can find very beautiful venues that are not ballrooms nor banquets.

That way, we can give our folks a great experience within budget.

I may sound mean but I think most couples should limit the amount of time they spend watching wedding-related TV shows, movies, websites and social media (especially Pinterest,Youtube) that push couples to spend and even splurge on completely wasteful stuff: fancy, overly decorated save the date cards ,invites, a second dress for the reception whereas the first dress is already super pricey, favors, they also tell you that you should buy jewels (other than engagement ring & wedding bands) , shoes, a dress for the engagement party and one for the shower and one for the rehearsal + rehearsal dinner whereas the outfits, jewelry, shoes you already own are more than fine etc...

The only unnecessary stuff that are worth a splurge, in my mind, are the 'first dress' and bridal accessories,tuxedo/suit, hairstylist.
