Things to never do at a wedding...

I’m seeing all these articles “things you should never do” or “why you shouldn’t.” So silly! What are some things you’ll be implementing into your wedding others say you shouldn’t, but that you love! Let’s spread some “you should absolutely do!” Opposed to all the negative! After all it’s no ones...

So I’ve seen stuff online saying you shouldn’t ask guests to bring food. And while I’m not putting it on the invitation to ask everyone to bring a dish, I am asking certain family and friends to provide “party-style” food such as meatballs, tea sandwiches, fruit & veggie tray, etc. for the reception rather than having it catered. This was the reception I grew up going to and I’ve honestly missed that lately.
I don’t get why wedding articles write about things that say it’s a no-no to do something that’s part of your culture.

I love the idea of having everyone chip in and people love to do it as it makes them feel special too as it is a gift to you for your wedding too. I don't see anything wrong with it if people offer.

This article was garbage! But I am may be sensitive since I had a signature drink at my wedding. Haha. It was National Margarita Day and we love tequila... of course we’re serving margaritas and obnoxiously call them “Cheetah-Ritas” for my Safari Park wedding. Just let a girl live! 😂

We’re doing empress gin and lemonade and Bombay sapphire and lemonade. It’s been a staple in our relationship. Anytime we drink this is what we go with, usually. lol

My fiancé loves a good ol Old Fashion, but we are going to have the option for a new fashion. And mine is an Elderflower Cosmopolitan. I might incorporate raspberry or pomegranate with it. Just to give it some color.

Fiance and I both love gin and my initials are GT so... why would I not have Gin & Tonic at my wedding?!? (I'm thinking of calling them GT's G&T's).

Fiance is part Puerto Rican and rum is part of his family's culture. 2nd drink will definitely be a variation on a Dark and Stormy.
Also, we are nixing most of the traditional gift-giving and pageantry (except for small gifts to our parents for their help with the wedding). It's not how we operate so why would we change for a wedding. We are just not materialistic people and our friends know that.

I've read a couple of those articles and laugh. If I'm going to be spending thousands on 1 special day to celebrate my fiance and I become a family then I'm damn well going to do it exactly the way I want. It's mine and my fiancé day.

    Those articles make me laugh!

With the signature drink, we're definitely doing that one. Our wedding is Disney themed and so we have two drinks inspired by Disney movies.

I've also seen articles saying not to use fake flowers, which we are using. 1. it's cheaper to do our wedding centerpieces with fake flowers and 2. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I want to be able to take our time to craft our centerpieces so we need the flowers ahead of time. Plus places like Joann's and Michael's are constantly doing sales on flowers and they look amazing.

I've also seen don't lists that include cash bars, buffets, money dances etc. All those things have happened at every wedding I've ever been too and I've never heard a complaint about any of it.

Some of the things are a cultural/regional thing but I think a lot of these "don't" lists just are excuses to stress brides out and make them spend more money than they want or make weddings this super formal thing, rather than what makes sense for the couple. If a couple wants a super fancy wedding, great! If they want a backyard potluck, great!

    The articles are crazy.

I get having a pro's and con's list - that is always super helpful because you might want those bbq chicken bites... but maybe not when your in your white dress Smiley laugh Smiley winking

It's good to hear other opinions of when an idea worked or when it didn't so you can plan your wedding accordingly: But to flat out said no/this is a bad horrible idea/don't do it- is just crazy. And I have noticed that sometimes the advice in the "don't do it" articles are clearly B.S. or because someone didn't plan something well.
