Themed Rehearsal Dinner? The Great Gatsby?

Alicia, on April 11, 2013 at 12:35 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

I am thinking about doing a "themed" rehearsal dinner and I was thinking of doing The Great Gatsby. It seems like a great way for (hopefully) people to dress up and just have a good time.

Right now, we are likely to have our rehearsal dinner at a piano bar. (www.rhetts.com to view pictures). My question is:

1. Would this theme fit there?

2. If so, how should I go about incorporating the theme?

3. If not, what do you think would be a good them for that venue?

You ladies rock!

I love it! I think it's an awesome theme for a piano bar Smiley smile

Sorry I'm not much help on incorporating the theme other than having everyone dress up and requesting 1920's music

Even though thats for a wedding I would still take some of their ideas. Maybe have a special themed drink picked out

When I think of The Great Gatsby I think of red lips, feathers in ladies' hair, and lots of pearls... and "classy" drinks, like lots of different martinis. Opulence is a good word for a Great Gatsby theme.

You could always just go with a 1920s theme, and give The Great Gatsby as an example Smiley smile

I feel so deprived not knowing what the Great Gatsby is, especially after checking out the awesome pinterest board @Kayla S. posted!

The 20's were about opulence ... furs, top hats & canes, feather boas, jewels on the hair, extravagant decor - anything like this would go well. do a search for vintage party ideas and supplies. you could also get novelty items at orientaltrading.com for props & party favors/masks, gems and feathers. Scatter gems on the table and get feathers and damask pattern tea lights - anything deco. your venue is perfect.

    1. I think it is an awesome idea(i'd do it myself if I knew people would go along with it)

    2. I think I squealed a little also when I saw the title of this thread lol!

    3. The clothing and hair styles are the big things.

    4. Pinterest and other such sites have plenty of visuals on how to make people and it all look.

    5. Good luck and have fun with it

I LOVE this idea! What a glamorous time that era was. L.R had it down! Furs, jewels, pearls, hairstyles. I love it!

It was a time of prosperity between World War I and the Great Depression. A bit like the 1980's were, decadent.

We're doing something like this, except we're doing the 30s! We rented out an old movie theater and we're doing a "night at the movies"! We are playing an old black & white from the 30s! We're able to invite everyone so people can choose to dress up or not. We're going to have a red carpet, etc. like a movie opening, drinks, h'orderves. Lots of glitz and glam Smiley winking

For you since the location is already done you don't need much except for what people should be wearing! So I think you have nothing to worry about, just dressing up!

I would be sure to read the book too. Also, look up fashion, dećor, and music from the 1920's and price it all out before u fully decide, including the prices of attire your guests will have to wear. Smiley smileI hope this helps!

Hundred layer cake just did a feature on great gatsby themed inspirations here:

    http://www.100layercake.com/blog/2013/05/06/the-great-gatsby-wedding-inspiration/

the trick seems to be the little details like the paper products and the little accessories that people can wear. I would drop a couple bucks on maybe something for the table similar to this. Good luck it sounds like fun!
