The Venue

Shana, on July 22, 2019 at 5:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

I need to take the time to vent, especially since many of you know what I'm going through. I love the venue that I picked. However, they require that I use their caterers, or pay a $600 fee to provide another caterer. However, that caterer must be insured for $1,000,000 plus provide additional info. Not many places have that, and I know for a fact that the caterers they have are not insured for that much. We wanted to provide our own catering to save money since everything that could go wrong, is going wrong. I don't like any of the caterers that they have. I finally settled on one, and it's a buffet. Unfortunately, the venue also requires that I have full service. I find that ridiculous since I'll be paying up to an extra thousand dollars for servers to stand around doing absolutely nothing. My wedding planning would be so much simpler if I didn't have to jump around to accommodate my venue's many requirements. I understand that most of them are for security reasons. However, I have worked with catering for 4 years and I've been to multiple venues. Because of this, I know that the majority of these requirements and rules are unnecessary and just cause extra stress and more money to be spent for the renters. I am overwhelmed. I'm worried that we won't be able to afford everything in the time we have left. I need a miracle. Anyway, happy planning! (I noticed this posted into wedding attire but I couldn't change it after I posted it).

Interesting where I am most are insured up to the million mark, however real estate here often exceeded a million dollars so I suppose for our area millions of dollars isn't much.
I'll agree it sucks the caterers demand you have your wedding a certain way, that doesn't make any sense to me. I guess all you can do I leave a review at the end

I'll definitely leave a review. I'm not exactly getting all that I want for the wedding due to the many restrictions.

I agree it's annoying, but you obviously knew this before you signed a contract (or you should have). IF you can't work with their restrictions you should have chosen another venue.

Yes, I clearly knew about the restrictions. Knowing about them and dealing with them are two different things. They appear simple enough on paper but not in reality. 🙄

Same, girl! I can read the whole thing and be like, okay. Then when it's actually time to plan I've already forgotten

I was like, "sure, no problem!" But I hadn't officially began planning so I had no idea what I would want or that it would be so difficult to actually do.

I disagree. My contract mentions using specific caterers but doesn't mention each caterer does something totally different and has their own rules, like some only provide full service or multicourse meals. It's highly atypical for a caterer to not be able to accommodate a vareity of dining options. Use specific caterers I understand but not being able to serve the meal I want is strange on their end. Some times what's in a contract doesn't play out as easily as you'd hope.

That is pretty standard. I have worked with several venues over the years and I can tell you It costs venues a ton of money each year to clean up after caters or family's who don't work in the catering industry all the time. For the venue, this ensures the day will run smooth and not have unnecessary trash or complaints from people about things not being clean

I absolutely understand this. But they require us to stay for cleanup so the venue doesn't have to clean anything. We clean everything up ourselves. I'm also plastic free, waste free so I'm having my caterer work with me on that to reduce waste.
