My fiancee and myself are not religious so we're kind of stuck on who will officiate our wedding. Any ideas?

Hire an officiant and make sure to get a contract. I went through two friends backing out before finally getting an officiant with a contract.

I'm actually the MOB. The bride and groom are not religious, and the husband's brother has a bit of an actor in him....it helps that in his job, he speaks in public quite frequently. Here in Delaware, anyone who is ordained can legally perform the ceremony. So, the bride's uncle will be the officiator.

I've found 2 websites that can ordain him for free. The bride and groom are quite happy with this, and the uncle is thrilled to do this for them.

Neither of us are religious either and I do not want somebody who doesn't know us marrying us so we are thinking about asking FH cousin or a family friend of ours.

Lol. The Officiator. They've already said what I'm going to say. Go to the Vendors tab and search non -denominational or civil. Also, I received an email from WW saying they are giving you $25 per vendor that you hire from them.

Firstly, I love the title of Officaiator; I'm using it instead of officiant from now on Smiley smile

Secondly, before we decided to go with a family member I did a lot of looking around online to find options. In my area, the WW vedor tab was basically useless; it just doesn't have the vendors in my area listed. However, The Knot vendor tab had people in my area, so try both of them depending on your area and you should have no problem finding what you're looking for.

I'm not sure about Thumbtack; I haven't heard good things about them.

Attn Monica; this is the review, on WW, for one of my super-officiator's last wedding. (I changed a couple of names to keep them private...) Notice the "knew us forever" part.

Working with Celia Milton and her group of officiants was wonderful! Though my husband and I were unable to book Celia personally for our wedding she referred us to another officiant that she works with Michael Yelle. He was so outgoing and fun to work with we had a few skype calls and he was able to help us customize our wedding so much that our guests and families still swear that we knew him for years! My husband and I had a series of questions that we answered about each other to better help Michael come up with our story and had not only my husband and I in happy tears but the entire rest of our guests as well! We loved that he tossed in a little line about our furry friend that couldn't make it (Sparky) because he means a lot to us too! We did a glass blend ceremony which is something Celia had recommended that we'd never heard of before but it was such a special touch to the ceremony. Also at the end of our ceremony prior to announcing us husband and wife Michael stepped off and to the side so that we could get our First Kiss photo, just he and I and I thought that was a very special touch too! Thank you so very much Michael, Celia and team we had an unforgettable day because of your efforts!

I am tempted to push our wedding out another year to afford to buy @Celia The Officiator costume, and pay for her trip to New Orleans, as well as her fee...

Use the vendor tab or check with your other vendors for recommendations.

My brother is officiating our wedding. I'll be paying for him to get certified or whatever it is. He writes so well and gives amazing speeches, plus he's my twin and one of my best friends, so it works out all the way around.

Years ago, a groom arranged for a friend to officiate. She said she'd be happy to, as long as her daughter was not having her baby that day. So, the groom arranged for another friend to be a back-up officiant. Day of the wedding, the first friend's daughter was in labor, so she backed out. Groom contacted seconded friend who remembered that her son was in a recital that evening so she couldn't do it either.

Groom resorted to the Yellow Pages (I did say it was years ago) and found me. I was available and officiated on 2 hours notice!

    Don't be that groom!
