The Knot Newlywed Fund Is the Easy (and Etiquette-Friendly) Way to Ask for Cash

Z_Runner, on June 7, 2017 at 9:18 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 36

So...I just received this on my email this morning...what do you girls/guys think?

Enter our new digital cash registry from The Knot, The Newlywed Fund. The money-based offering allows you to ask for cash (and for your guests to gift it) in a more meaningful way by specifying exactly what each monetary gift is going toward, be that a new car or dinner at your favorite local resturant. And better yet, it appears right alongside your traditional registry with The Knot, so guests can conveniently see what's been purchased and what's still available to give. Insider tip: Display the entire registry, both traditional and cash, on your wedding website to keep things stress-free and easily accessible.

I think this is WRONG!

Why don't you take this to The Knot forums then? You know how WW will respond. It's tacky.

So gross. Why don't I just post a link so guests can pay off my student loans?

I can't believe any wedding website would even suggest it.

I saw this email and couldn't believe it! My first thought was that WW would have a field day with this one.

Ha I got this e-mail too and deleted it right away! There's no right way to ask for money for a wedding! It's all tacky no matter how you ask! Don't have a wedding then if you're going to ask for any sort of money back for it.

I got this too and actually laughed at how tacky it is. The email was called "The Right Way to Ask for Cash"...

Fun fact, there is no right way.

The people on the Knot boards would not agree with this either

@Cindy- i was curious on "how is the proper way" since we all know there is no proper way to ask for $. I did get a laugh out of it Smiley smile

I think it's revolting, but don't have any illusions; the Knot and WW are advertising vehicles, not etiquette vehicles. Anyone who pays them will get press and support.

It's not proper to ask for money and it never will be. No matter who sends WW or the Knot a check.

Dear god, cash to buy a new car?!

FH and I just bought me a new car 3 weeks ago. No outsiders contributed because we are adults. Wtf...

I got that too! All I could think was noooooooooo. I hate that they're encouraging this terrible trend, though I'm sure there's something in it for the knot too :/

Ew... I get letting people know you have a registry or putting a card box on your welcome table but that's just wrong and super SUPER tacky.

I really think this not having guests give money is an American thing! I thought it was perfectly normal (even my aunt asked if I was having people pay when RSVP-ing). I had to tell her that apparently it isn't done here. Where I'm from, it's expected for guests to give $60-80 per person attending.

*Heads over to the Knot* If anything, the users there are more intense than WW, so I imagine the forums are literally burning down right now
